Me and my friend travelled for a weekend away. We went to the room where dogs are allowed and one of us at a time went down to get food from the main eating area. There was barely any food out - the bread baskets were empty, there were no drinking glasses and only very small plates/bowls for fruit. A staff member then snapped at my friend saying we had to let someone know we were here so they could come up and order from us. Eventually someone did come but we waited 50 minutes before we got our breakfast. By the time we finished eating it was 1040 and we had 20 minutes before we had to checkout.

Cross Keys Hotel, Kelso, hotel in Kelso

Looking out over the cobbled square in the centre of Kelso, the Cross Keys Hotel enjoys a landmark location in this Scottish Borders town.

Requested room with walk in shower and given room with wet room, fantastic! Solved my mobility problems. The room itself was a bit on the small side anyone in a wheelchair might have been short of space. Dinner was excellent, I would recommend the steak pie any day. Buffet breakfast was great with plenty of haggis! Staff pleasant and helpful. Everything seemed clean and fresh.

I came up to Kelso with my Husband intending to look for a house in the Borders. Whilst looking for accommodation overnight, I came upon Janet and Allan's property. Kelso is a lovely town and the accommodation was a 3-minute drive from the town centre or 15-minute walk. The room was integrated with the main house, though had its separate entrance. Janet was a lovely host and I was delighted to find that we were both from a similar area in the North East of England. Janet was very knowledgeable about the Borders area and the town of Kelso too, recommending where to eat and what to see. The house is in such a lovely quiet area and the room was warm and comfortable, the bed was super comfy too, enabling us to have a good night's sleep. Breakfast was tasty and fresh with a few options, and the whole experience was lovely and very good value for money. We will continue to visit the borders area in our pursuit of a property and will make Janet and Allan's lovely home our place of choice to stay en route.

We ate at The Cobbles and also The Cross Keys. We had a takeaway from the Chinese in Kelso. All Good and enjoyable. Kelso is compact and all on the flat. We used it as a base to visit other places in the Borders.

The history is all within walking distance. it has enough going on but like all towns since COVID, there are hopes closed that may never open again. the bus is regular so you can relax and watch the very beautiful scenery while having visits to other towns.

It was a very nice apartment on two floors. Steep stairs up to both floors but apart from that very nice indeed and would highly recommend. We were visiting my sister who lives up the street from the Bakehouse so the recommendations below are not applicable as it was Christmas and all was closed.

A lovely little area with some amenities round about.

A lovely little area with some amenities round about. From our hotel in Roxburgh it took 5 minutes in a taxi to the town square. The town itself has everything you need Greg’s, chemist, co-op, coffee shops, antique stores, few pubs. So you can definitely spend a few hours toddling about. There is also a castle about another 2/3 minutes drive by. But do check the website for seasonal opening times. For great wholesome food I’d definitely recommended cobbles inn. You’ll probably have to book a table so be prepared, it’s a busy little place.

The bedroom was extremely comprehensively equipped (bottles of water, tea & coffee, hairdryer, tissues, fan). Great views over town centre & Kelso from this attic room 5. Close to restaurants, cafes, shops. Easy walk to Riverside Walk & ruined Abbey. Kelso is a beautiful town and the hotel is very well located at the centre of it. Very friendly staff. The staff were great. Dinner was perfect as was breakfast. The room was ideal and the shower was as perfect as any shower I have ever had. The location in Kelso was central and we took the opportunity to walk around the town and experience the Saturday market before we left. The decor and condition of the hotel inside and out was exceptional.
