Superb location right on the beach with a nice small pool. Very friendly staff and nice bar with good meals. I really enjoyed my three day stay at Thumbi View. Large comfortable bed with mosquito netting and lots of hot water and big thick towels! The village is quite small with a few lodges and restaurants and shops but everything you need is here. Went out to a local bar with a pool table one night which was full of locals and very friendly with great Malawian music playing. I will definitely be back.

Cape Maclear is a beautiful place with spectacular views over Lake Malawi. The water is crystal clear. Unfortunately there is apparently the potential of bilharzia in the water. There are alot of activities to do for nature lovers. The most northern part of Cape Maclear is a busseling local village with countless fishermen doing their nets and drying and selling the catch of the day. Children are playing everywhere. So the northern side of the beach is dirty, busy and noisy. The further down south you go with the beach the more pristine, quiet and unspoilt it becomes. So, my advice is to choose a lodge or guest house as close to the sourthern part of Cape Maclear as you can get.
Cape Maclear is a really good place to explore the best Lake Malawi has to offer. Being friendly, but firm, with the locals will ensure you enjoy the arts and crafts offered without being overwhelmed every time you step outside. The outdoor activities are bountiful and a must if you want to make the most of your visit.
Beautiful location, surrounded by Lake Malawi national park and an amazing view of both Mumbo and Thumbi islands
Cape Maclear
The view is simply perfect from the hotel. Sunset over Lake Malawi is the stuff of dreams. Terrace and pool could be sat at all day. Reading and lazing about and cheap drinks on tap. Evening meals were good value home cooking. Breakfast was superb with choices of coffee, toast, and a selection of omelettes and full English cooked. They also arranged good value transfers from Zomba
