Great trip out.
Great trip out. If I remember rightly They may not take Ames cards. The boat comes in slowly to the rock and is regular. There is audio directions as you go round for free and it was really interesting the diverse population imprisoned there and the statistics were amazing. Really informative.

Interesting , but flies all over, from ferry to all over island , birds 🦅 fly over , watch for poop droppings , such a strong stink when you pull into island . Staff where you pick up audio tour , headsets so rude!

You can use the museum audio or your own telephone with a QR code if you do this take your own headphones for comfort. Go really early before the crowds. You can’t eat on the island. Know as much as you can before arriving it will enhance your visit

The audio tour is great!
The audio tour is great! Everyone can enjoy this tour at his own pace. Also there are Park Rangers that will tell you more amazing stories about different aspects of the island and it's buildings.

Everyone should visit at least once.
Everyone should visit at least once. The history is interesting and the self guided audio tour lets you go at your own pace. Be prepared for a windy and chilly ferry ride there and back but the scenery is breathtaking

I was actually taken there by my friend, as I hadn't planned to go there and if I has missed this, I would have regret this until the rest of my life! I was very surprised, how great Alcatraz - place and its' history is. Not only the travel there is fast and pleasurable, but being there and listening to the audio guide with recorded voices of prisoners and guards, while doing a tour inside the Alcatraz prison is unforgettable experience! Highly recommended!

The staff were extremely friendly, it was really close to fisherman’s wharf and surrounding areas, the fitness centre was handy and we had a great wee view of Alcatraz from our room. The filtered water stations were also brilliant and the milk and cookies was a nice touch!
The stay was pleasant, position 10/10, the rooms always clean and equipped with everything. Very useful service consierge for bookings of various activities in San Francisco.
On the first day we found a very helpful lady with whom we booked the tour of Alcatraz and provided us with many suggestions.
Property is located in the business district. This suited us as we only had one day/two nights and our main activity was a trip to Alcatraz. The hotel was about 10 min walk so it suited. However we didn’t get to see much of anything else due to time.
The location was great for the beach, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Starbucks was a short walk away. To my surprise, it was super quiet over night and the bed was really comfortable.
We had a private room in this hostel which was perfect for our 3 night stay and had a view overlooking Alcatraz and stepping out of the hostel into the park gave incredible views of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge. Parking was fabulous in a very safe area which was great for peace of mind given the situation with car break ins in San Francisco at the moment. Security on site was great too.
I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. It’s in such a good location that feels very safe and is close to lots of good pubs/restaurants as well as lots of beautiful walking paths with ideal views of the city, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz island. The staff were all really friendly and the rooms were very clean.
Overall this place met my expectations due to its location, walking distance to Aquatic Cove beach, cable car, Coit Tower, Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 33 for Alcatraz ferry. The room was clean and of decent size with large beds (family 2+2) and equipped with fridge, coffee machine, ironing set and TV. There is lots of nice restaurants near hotel and I found this location very safe even for night walks.
Hotel was in a great location for Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, Pier 39 and the ferry to Alcatraz.
Rooms were spacious and very clean.
Reception staff were very helpful especially when we had our flight cancelled - they helped us get in contact with the airlines.
Excellent choice of breakfast.

Number 1 attraction is Alcatraz and you can't come here without visiting. Amazing experience. However this was probably surpassed by cycling over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and taking the ferry back. You will get amazing photos of the bridge doing it this way. World Series Baseball was on during our trip to California which San Francisco were in and eventually won which added an extra buzz to the city. In our time in San Francisco the Giants were in Kansas but the whole city was alive with Giants talk. Buy a MUNI visitor passport. At the start of the day you'll want to walk everywhere but those hills take their toll and you'll be glad you can jump on any bus, streetcar or cable car later in the day

A trip to Alcatraz island is worth the time but book before you arrive to avoid disappointment
Try the Big Bus an excellent way to see this large and varied city. Try later in the year the weather is good and the summer travellers will have gone home. A trip to Alcatraz island is worth the time but book before you arrive to avoid disappointment. If the crowds overwhelm you head for the Haight or the Golden Gate park where there is space for all.

Alcatraz is the most prominent tourist thing to do but if you don't want to spend an afternoon there, or tickets are sold out (get them in advance btw), just waking along the pier there is loads to see
