The builder was a very intelligent man who had a beautiful nature. As a result of what I saw I purchased his book about life at San Michelle. He was a doctor who was in touch with nature and humanity

Get here early as large groups descend on the island around midday. The cafe up stairs in the complex is well worth a visit and you can gain access to it via the museum but you dont have to pay to go there only if you want to visit Axel Munthes home, just make whoever is onthe desk aware that you want access to the cafe only.

There is coffee, tea, snacks and fruit in the kitchen area and the breakfast is served at nearby Faro cafe, an excellent bakery where we had the best croissants ever! They were topped with pistachios
