Very comfortable, all you need fora away from home break.

The accommodation was warm, welcoming and very comfortable. Small details such as fresh milk in the fridge, coffee and varieties of coffee syrups made it very homely. The bed was wonderfully comfy and warm, very much needed when it was 70+mph...

***************** Proudly promoting fair and transparent pricing. No additional pet/service or cleaning fee charged! ******************* Peninsula Cottage is located on the Island of Lewis, in the fabulous Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Situated on the A866 through the Eye Peninsula (or An Rubha in Gaelic), a few minutes away from the famous Tiumpan Head & only a 10-15 minute journey from Stornoway airport and ferry port. Ideally situated as a base for exploring the whole of the island whilst still being close to the amenities in town and within a quiet village location. A short walk to a lovely pebbled beach with regular sightings of otters and seals. **One double bed sleeping two guests. **Open kitchen/living dining area with combined washer dryer/small fridge freezer, dishwasher & microwave. **No minimum night's stay. **Bring your four-legged friend for free! Up to 2 well behaved dogs welcome. Open grassed area on site shared with one other cottage. **Discounted rate plus welcome hamper for stays of 7 nights or more! **Bathroom with shower over bath. **Smart TV with Netflix and Prime video. **Just a 2-minute walk to nearest bus stop with regular service into Stornoway. **Parking for one vehicle. ***When you arrive ask for directions to the nearby "secret" sandy beach. (some scrambling required). ***
*************************Things to do**************************** You can be exploring the North and West of Lewis with some of the best beaches in the world in less than an hour. Have a wander around the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis, visit the jaw dropping sands of Uig, stroll through the Blackhouse village or visit the spectacular Callanish Standing Stones which are older than Stonehenge! Stornoway is a great place to explore. The working harbour is so picturesque with Lews Castle overlooking the water. There are 270 hectares of lush castle gardens and grounds to explore. For a wee shopping trip, there’s also plenty of lovely local eateries and shops selling local gifts such as Harris Tweed. Go slightly further afield and explore Harris which makes up the south of the island and is separated only by the hills of North Harris. Here’s where you’ll find many sights including the spectacular Luskentyre Beach and the Isle of Harris distillery. Feeling more energetic? then take on some epic hill walking on An Clisham, the highest peak in the Outer Hebrides standing at 799m tall. Alternatively, hop on one of the many boat trips leaving from Tarbert or Leverburgh. There’s so much to do and see on both Lewis and Harris that you’ll want to be out exploring every day. Return from your daily adventures to your cosy cottage to unwind.
When you arrive on the island please don’t use a navigation system to find us as this will take you to the centre of our post-code area. The pin location provided on the map is accurate when searching for “Kinnoull House and Peninsula Cottage” and specific driving directions will be provided to you after booking. There are lots of fantastic local walks if you fancy spending your days closer to home. Take the dog for a walk to visit the stunning Tiumpan lighthouse only a 30-minute walk away (4 min drive). Use the viewing platform to search for whales, dolphins and porpoises. This is an official sighting spot for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation group! Watch the many nesting seabirds on the cliffs. On a clear day the mountains of mainland Scotland can be seen across the Minch (the body of water between the Western Isles and the Scottish mainland). You’re also a ten-minute walk from a lovely small beach. Explore the nearby coastal path which is accessed only a few minutes' walk away. Fancy the night out? Use a local taxi service to pop into nearby Stornoway for a visit to one of the pubs and restaurants. Return to your wee cottage at the end of the evening to enjoy some well-earned relaxation. Take the chance to experience the legendary Lewis summer sunsets and the beautiful Northern Lights in winter with some of the darkest night skies around. As the Western Isles is fortunate enough to be blessed with a micro-climate of its own, you are sheltered from some of the colder spells the rest of Scotland faces in the winter months. Whatever you decide to do with your stay I expect you’ll fall in love with the island just as we did. Once you fall in love with the Outer Hebrides it never leaves you! Chì mi thu a dh’ aithghearr - Scots Gaelic for "See you soon.” I'm a laid-back host and I'll leave you to enjoy the cottage in private however I only live next door/on site so if there’s anything I can help with during your stay, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
