The Fisherman Village is a gem. Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The location is ideal as a base for touring without the hassle of much busier Funchal. Although the hotel is run on a B&B basis, you feel as if you have a choice of different restaurants every night, as there must be 20 different hostelries within meters of the front door. The breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. We rented a care through the hotel for a few days and it was delivered to us at reception with parking just a minute away in the municipal car park.

Space is big and clean. Location is great, in a local Neiborhood, 15 minutes walking to the center. Balcony was nice placed, and we had a nice view. Liked the 2 bathrooms as we were just 2 guests.

Chose Camara de Lobos because we thought Funchal might be a bit too noisy and busy. CdL is a very small town/overgrown village which has quite a tourist focus, as it's on the cruise ships trip agenda; so it has some good restaurants and a some nice attractions to occupy a few hours. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony just staring down into the harbour, people watching etc. There's a good, cheap supermarket, the Portugese equivalent of a well-stocked Aldi or Lidl, but with some nicer stuff as well. Two or three good restaurants and a few so-so ones. We ate at the big one that specialises in On the downside, it's very plain to see that there's a lot of poverty there which made us be a little careful at night but no more than that. I expect it's the same in every area.
We ate a couple of times in Vila do Peixe (House of Fish) which was jampacked with locals on the weekend, quieter mid-week. You pick your fish from the counter and they cook it for you. Very good. We also ate at Minerva, a small boutique restaurant by the harbour. The food was very unusual but fantastic. I would neither praise nor criticise any of the other places we ate or drank at, they were standard touristy bars, nothing special.
I should add that for us, CdL was just a base, and we had a hire car so went off and about pretty much every day. As a base it was fine, but I wouldn't want to spend a week just there; nor even two or three days, to be honest. If I wasn't going to be mobile I'd stay in Funchal, which is very pretty and has loads more choice in every epartment.

A nice working fishing village with plenty of character, lots of very good restaurants and bars. It’s a sunny place and you can always find somewhere to sit with a drink/meal in the sun and watch the world go by. There a nice promenade walk to Praia Formosa (about 45 mins). There was some building work going on during the day, pavement improvements and sometimes it was intermittently noisy but not too bad.

A little town with a few excellent restaurants and a nice view on the Ocean - you can definitely enjoy beautiful sunsets there. However, on weekdays the road can be a bit noisy, so not appropriate if you're looking for a retreat in nature.

The staff was so accommodating.
The staff was so accommodating.
My air conditioning had a message on the thermostat to change the filter. They did so right away. The cooling was excellent.
They also made the fridge temperature colder to my preference.
The room was clean and had daily fresh water.
Nice private balcony.

Sadly the area is having extensive work throughout
Sadly the area is having extensive work throughout
There is much disruption noise and dust
Unsafe traffic and pavements dug up all over the resort
When completed it will be beautiful but at the moment not the best place to be
We were told should all be completed in next few weeks at the moment it is very distressing even more for the fact it could have been so great and our hotel was fantastic

Friendly little fishing village, buzzing with life.
Friendly little fishing village, buzzing with life. Beautiful walks along coast. Some good friendly restaurants. Access to the bus to go to Funchal was easy. Top of the village was less picturesque with some modern buildings. Construction work on the sea front gave some noise.
