Matera it's a southern Italian wonder.

Matera it's a southern Italian wonder. Is famous for its sassi and stunning landscapes, a city so expressive and touching is its sorrowful beauty. Matera is the Italy's magical city of stone. Archaeologically the most interesting town in Italy. Matera continues its rebirth attracting worldwide attention for its history, culture, and extraordinary architecture and terrain. Hiking, gastronomy, art and culture, photography, painting, history... all of this took us to Matera and all of this fascinated us, to the point of wanting to return one day.

We had a wonderful time at Matera.

We had a wonderful time at Matera. The people were very friendly even though the season was just about to start and alot of facilities were still closed. We had a great first of the season meal at Enoteca dai Tosi with a tour of the facility. Tasted new wine, delicious meats from the local butcher, local cheeses, and some dishes from the new menu. The town is so beautiful, that you can't take a bad picture. You must prepare for a lot of stairs and walking...have comfortable shoes... The town was even prettier at night. It was great! We wanted to stay longer and keep exploring....

A unique city with a long and interesting history.

A unique city with a long and interesting history. Parts of the old city are still being renovated. The ancient cave structures that have been transformed into modern hotels, restaurants, shops and bars are worth seeing. Tourists are not allowed to bring cars into the old city and parking outside can be tricky. Also, there are a lot of steps and uneven pavement so comfortable shoes are a must. Not very accessible for those who have mobility issues.

Beautiful bed and breakfast in a unique setting. The location was perfect for all sightseeing in Matera. The bed was the most comfortable that we have slept in on our travel through Italy. We loved the fresh linens every day and breakfast was delicious and made to order. We particularly loved our little terrace for sipping wine in the evening, watching the lights in the Sassi Caveoso. We had a very happy week here thanks to the wonderful, kind and attentive staff.

Amazing location for exploring both the main tourist bits of Matera and for access to the beautiful hikes in the surrounding countryside. Room was very spacious with fantastic views from the private balcony. All the staff were brilliant, incredibly attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. Small hotel, practically situated on the fringe of Sassi Caveoso and therefore easy to park the car. Our room was quite spacious. Breakfast is served on a nicely situated terrace with stunning view of the town. Great for aperitif in the evening. For dinner, I heartily recommend Soul Kitchen, exceptional Ribeye (Podolica) and Pannacotta with orange infused olive oil. Make sure you take a guided walking tour to really get to know Matera.

The breakfast here was awesome! Everything in my room was pretty clean, and the balcony was a treat. Staff very friendly! About a 10 minute drive from a parking garage where you can park and then walk down into Matera and you can park for free on the hotel property. Definitely an ideal way to see Matera so you’re not driving down all the tiny narrow roads in the city.
