Known as the 'Jewel Box', Dresden is a stunning German city with rich history, an important classical music scene, and an unforgettable Baroque and Rococo-inspired city centre.
Located on the banks of the Elbe River, the whole city was destroyed during World War II, but has now been rebuilt into one of the most interesting places in Europe. Magnificent Zwinger Palace is the main Dresden attraction, featuring impressive pavilions and a majestic garden in the middle. Everything! Easily my favourite city to visit in Germany so far for its sheer beauty. Amazingly I got last minute tickets to the Semperoper (the opera) to watch “The Magic Flute”.
The architecture, the food, the people are what make Dresden the special place it is.
The Hop on Hop off bus tours are great as they take you to the suburbs in the hills that you would otherwise not get a chance to see. Great views and a good cafe in one suburb to have a coffee.

I went for trains and there is a lot for train fans.
I went for trains and there is a lot for train fans. Two narrow gauge steam trains, only 15 minutes by train away from the main station: Weißeritztalbahn and Lößnitzgrundbahn. The Transport museum (Verkehrshaus) next to the Frauenkirche is also worth a visit. Take the 1.5 hour train east to Zittau and you get to another great and famous narrow gauge steam train line. And you are only scratching the surface here. If you are in the UK, take the Eurostar to London, then continue with the Eurosleeper in a direct train to Dresden. You can even easily make a day trip to Prague!

Dresden’s history is mind boggling.
Dresden’s history is mind boggling. There are so many areas worth exploring, both within the city and on the outskirts. Rapid transit is easy to negotiate.
Dresden was certainly the cultural Center of Germany and, despite being bombed at the end of WW2, the resilience of Dresdeners helped restore a unique city.

Dresden has obviously much to offer in terms of history,...
Dresden has obviously much to offer in terms of history, with its many museums or locations that have something to tell about it. Like the Semper Oper, which offers guided tours - also for kids (I would recommend for families); Zwinger with its science exebition; beautiful rebuild Frauenkirche with its catacombs etc.
But also "die Neustadt" with many culinary restos, the art district, the Elbufer - especially in summer. As well as the many hiking trails, Bastei Bridge, many castles like Moritzburg or Königstein Fortress (take at least 5h for that. it also hold a museum)
There were many more things to see, which we could not cover. So, a good reason to go back soon.

Although I have travelled to other parts of Germany, I had never seen Dresden. It is a remarkable city! I parked at the underground garage at the Frauenkirche, which was centrally located to many of the points of interest. I visited the Fuerstenzug, which is the Procession of Princes, created on tiles. So impressive! I toured the Palace. Make sure you get the complete ticket that takes you through the Green Vault. Amazing jewelry and priceless artifacts. Walking around, it's architectural overload! Also, don't miss going into Camondas Chocolate Store!
The staff is very professional and friendly. The room was exceptionally large and roomy. Not at all cluttered, a wide open space, large window, great view, well appointed bathroom. In a more stingy place they would have tried to split this into two rooms. But it was wonderful to not feel boxed in. WIFI is great, location also optimal, almost next to the Opera and beside the river. Parking garage is underneath the hotel. In Dresden, nearly all is in walking distance. We plan to come back and will definitely stay in the Maritim Hotel again!
We loved this hotel, it was right across the road from the main train station and the beginning of one of the main tram lines.
It was so close to the central shopping area in Dresden and an easy walk to the Christmas Markets that we had travelled to see.
We were really happy there. The room was quiet and clean, there were plenty of hooks for our mountains of coats and scarves and beanies.
The laundry facilities were really easy with an app that told you when your machine was finished which was very handy.
We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. Pet friendly, parking available, hotel looks and feels brand new, delicious breakfast, restaurant and bar, location is right next to the tram station so you are 10 and 15 minutes out of the New Town and the Old Town respectively.
Perfect customer service, they went out of their way to ensure comfort of our stay.
Highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to visit Dresden and learn about its history.
Very friendly, happy and relaxed hotel staff which was nice to see. Hotel room and rest of the hotel was super clean. AC was quiet, no smell and working great. Comfy beds. More facilities available in the hotel than we used, but it all looked great. Parking is under the hotel, 28 euros per day, but that's hassle-free parking at probably the best location in the city centre. You can easily walk to most highlights.
It was super clean, the beds were very comfortable.
Very spacious, terrace included, windows everywhere with adorable flowers. Cheap parking, calm, charming area and altogether an amazing stay. One of the best we have visited. Super good value for money, especially in Germany where everything is usually too expensive, this was PERFECT!
I’ve stayed here before so it was my first choice for a return trip. It is very conveniently located being a short walk to the old town and the Zwinger & within easy reach of local transport. A very nice breakfast buffet and a pleasant atmosphere throughout the hotel.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and really the best.
nice hotel and nice room, the public transport is very convince. 15 minus way go to the center train station and city centre by tram. The boss is very nice. I lost my smart phone charge scoket on the way to Dresden. The boss borrow his scoket to me. Next time when I travel to Dresden, I would like to order this hotel again.
The hotel is in a great location to easily walk through Altstadt Dresden and see the historic sites. Even though the parking and breakfast cost extra, the price was reasonable and a good value for our family. The room was clean and provided a good place to rest after touring through the beautiful city.
I have stayed in two hotels in Dresden and I recommend Pullman. It's very close to train station and also not far from the old town. There are fridge, coffee machine and tea kettle in room. The breakfast is excellent (sugarfree option is a plus) but it could be difficult to find seats during peak hours.
We were very happy for such a spacious room! Hotel has a modern design, free minibar, situated in the heart of the old town. For our nect Dresden trip we will definitely come back. Sitting for breafast provided also outside. Breakfast was very good, everyone can find his preferable. 😊
Location (close enough to walk into Dresdens old town, public transport directly in front of hotel) presented breakfast, rooms with great views towards the Elbe. Access to small kitchenette with kettle, fridge, cutlery, microwave. Very friendly and helpful staff.
This lovely hotel is located on the less touristy side of Dresden, which is why I like staying there. There are trams that you can take into the center of town or it’s a pleasant 15 - 20 minute walk.
The hotel has a nice garden area as well as a pool.
The room was as expected like any other Ibis Hotel: simple, small, but practical - containing everything you need to just have a place to sleep. There was an option to rent bikes which was easy and uncomplicated - a great way to get around Dresden!
Next to the pedestrian zone, i.e. close to all places worth visiting in Dresden. Parking on-site but not easy to access because of location (with the booking confirmation, the hotel provides a map, which is extremely helpful)
Suggest to book room with extra sofa, with more space compare with standard double room. Standard just as IBIS. This hotel with excellent location, easy to go old town and other attractions, especially Christmas markets.
I had a show in MESSE DRESDEN. The hotel is just about 15 min walk to the show. And 10 min walk to downtown which I like very much. Everyday I went out to run and see sights in downtown.
We loved the layout of the hotel. An old home turned into a beautiful hotel. Walking distance to the best Christmas market in Germany. Staff was friendly and very helpful.
Outstanding Hotel. Stylish, great bang for your buck, friendly staff and the breakfast was out of this world. Best Hotel in Dresden I stayed at. Highly recommend.
