Edith and Silvia are lovely hosts, very hospitable, making you feel like at home. One get a family feel once you walk through the door. We could leave our bags already in the morning, before the check-in, and could also store them after the check-out, during the day of our departure. We got breakfast when we arrived in the morning even though it wasn't included in our stay, this was super nice!
Breakfast is great. The buffet provides a variety of options. Freshly boiled eggs are also served!

Bad Gastein used to be the place to be in the mountains...
Bad Gastein used to be the place to be in the mountains until 60 years ago. The architecture reflects this, beautiful belle epoque buildings everywhere.
Unfortunately Bad Gastein wanted to become more "modern" in the 60-70ies. So they destroyed the village with awful buildings. The elegance was lost.
Since 20 years those mistakes are being corrected and from my point of view they managed to hide the worst "architectural disturbances" in the meanwhile. And you can already feel it: it´s alive again and again gives one the impression to be in an elegant, timeless place.
Also it seems that a new generation of hoteliers and restaurant owners is bringing some freshness into the village.
So i can clearly recommend: go and see!

We had skiied in the Ski Amade area before but not in Bad Gastein - it was a very special surprise. We chose it because the resort is at high altitude, and we were taking a chance on good snow conditions, mid December, but it exceeded our expectations. We'll definitely be back!!!

We came during off-season - so a lot of places were closed. But we still found excellent restaurants, and things to do - and, to be honest, enjoyed the quiet. There were too many great restaurants to mention - every experience was unique, either because of the tasty menu, the views or the ambience.
The walk along the waterfall is amazing! We walked up the path for the first time at night, coming home after dinner. It’s well maintained and well lit - my mom did it with ease at 83 years young!

Badgastein is a little gem in the Austrian Alps, with many options for a rejuvenating holiday. The paths in the mountains are enchanting, there is a ski center for winter sports, while the thermal waters feed the spas of many hotels, as well as the big municipal spa of this small town. There are regular connections by train to other parts of Austria and by bus to neighbouring villages.
The only "disadvantage" is that the typical cuisine of the area is not inspirational and the dining experience is not that high compared to the other services offered in the area.

We skipped one day skiing and went to the Alpentherme at the Bad Hofgastein, it was a great and relaxing experience. But too hot inside. The children under 16 could not use tha sauna complex, not much to do for teen boys there.
It was really amazing and not often I evaluate the hotels with such high score. Furniture, kitchen, room, everything was new. A view was just amazing. the location is close to the city center, waterfall and hiking tracks (but it a mountain town and you should go uphill). We were during the closure period in Bad Gastein, but were able to do hiking and visit spa. Thanks to the owner, we have got Gastein Guest card that help us to get a reduction in spa.
My stay in this belle epoque villa was the best in Austria! The staff was outstanding, the food as well (highly recommend having half-board), and the furniture and ambiance were refreshingly old-fashioned (the villa's motto). The shuttle to/from the train station/ski area was very useful. Moreover, unlike most ski resorts (which offer mainly ski), there is so much more to do in Bad Gastein. I will gladly be back in Villa Excelsior and Bad Gastein!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at a wonderful hotel, and I cannot express enough how amazing my experience was. From the moment we arrived, the hosts went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. They were incredibly accommodating and always had a smile on their faces, making me feel like I was part of their family. The food at this hotel was truly exceptional. Every meal was like dining at a 5-star restaurant!
Excellent food with a variety of choices for breakfast and nice dinner menu, clean and spacious rooms, good spa facilities. Superb staff at restaurant for breakfast/dinner, making us feel very comfortable and relaxed at meal times. The ski bus station was right there in front of the hotel; we used our car mainly for transport as Bad Gastein/Hofgastein were within a few minutes of reach with some great scenery.
Agree with previous reviewers, this place has a Grand Budapest Hotel feel. Very beautiful old hotel, dark wood paneling, large spacious rooms, old pool and spa areas, mix of old and new decor. We had a huge room with a king sized bed overlooking the river and waterfall. Beautiful balcony. Staff were very friendly but relaxed. Key was available when we arrive after hours. Pretty unique place.
Well, this was a surprise. This is like stepping back into time at last a 100 years. The furniture looks antique and the interior of the hotel looks like you could film the Austrian version of Downton Abbey here. Still, the bathroom was modern, and the beds were absolutely wonderful. The view from the room was breathtaking. And the place is an easy stroll away from the center of town.
Great place to stay and eat if you want to visit Bad Gastein and its surroundings. The owners/hosts were very kind and helpful. Nice and family atmosphere. The room was cleaned every day. The bed was big and comfortable. Breakfasts and the restaurant were really good as well :)
Definitely, recommended if you want to visit the Alps in Austria.
I loved how huge the property was, including the long walk down scenic hallways especially to the fitness areas. The view from the room was incredible with the huge windows opening up to the mountains. The sauna and pool areas were absolutely fanastic. Right in the middle of Bad Gastein just up the street from the waterfall too.
The hotel is located smack-bang in front of Bad Gastein’s famed waterfall (which sounds like you’re inside the belly of a 747). The decor is a little aged, but has its 1960’s charm which I hope won’t be significantly affected by the renovations. The value is exceptional, considering the town is called the Monte Carlo of the alps.
Gorgeous Hotel in the hearth of Bad Gastein just a few meters away from the cablecar station and the famous waterfall, After a long hiking trip you are able to enjoy and relax in the SPA which has a beautiful panorama to the mountains. In most of the cases the staff was friendly and helpful.
Great little hotel that had everything I needed. It was clean, the room was nice and had a balcony with a view over the town and the mountains. Very kind and friendly staff that was very helpful and made me feel welcome at any time. Would stay again if I visit Bad Gastein
i like every every every things ,, really I appreciate your efforts in this amazing hotel , the apartment was super super perfect ,, the parking ,, the playground out side ,, the kids club inside the hotel ,, the shop inside the hotel the restaurant ,, i will come again
Kind hostess, let us stay as long as we need on the last day.
Good location between Badgastein and Hofgastein (9 min drive to each).
Parking and ski storage are available at the property.
Very quiet and easy to get place also in winter condition.
High hospitality and welcoming from the team, the person supported me in ordering the pizza. The welcoming tasty water, the coffee machine and new style design of the hotel.
Very nice hotel in the centre of Bad Gastein. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Had an excellent dinner and breakfast in the hotel. Great views from hotel room
