The host was very humble and kind. The house was immaculately clean and well furnished with all accessories. There was no shortage of wood to put in the fireplace, as it was very cold.

We used this town as the base for our explorations of the Serra do Açor. It worked well for that purpose. We were able to drive to Piódão one day to visit the schist village there. And we spent one evening stargazing. The night sky was of very good quality according to our astronomer daughter who was traveling with us. We were able to see the Milky Way!!
One evening we drove to Coja and dined at Restaurante Príncipe do Alva. We had a good meal of traditional Portuguese food with an upscale twist and wonderful, attentive service.
There is only 1 small café/market in town.
The mountain roads were in good shape, usually 2 lanes (although narrow), and paved. However they are twisty and can be steep, especially the switchbacks. It takes longer to drive from place to place than you might think because the roads slow you down.
