they had a great on-site restaurant conveniently open until 10pm and from 6.30am for breakfast. This was a comfortable one night stop so that we could catch a morning flight to Lima what with the buses not running due to the recent flooding taking a bridge out further south

Talara is a good place to stay in between your next destination, the Casadina hotel is a good option. The town has everything you need and very safe. Be aware when you land you get mobbed by taxi drivers it’s common but once you get into the city it’s not like that.
