Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC. Some great board walks and coastal walks of various lengths. Peaceful area with most tourists not taking advantage of the walks and stopping in car parks for a quick look only. Warning: don't go off road near beachs. We towed someone out of the sand!

Haast is a definite stop and you must visit Jackson's Bay. Although itis a long way from Haast its a lovely drive and an interesting place when you get there. Make sure you take insect repellant as it is a MUST.
We ate at the hotel restaurant. Good selection of mains.
Lots of walks.

Haast requires some commitment to not just blast through to Wanaka or the glaciers. The visitors centre and the boardwalk (on way to Jackson Bay) are both worth an hour of your time. Plus all the points on the map just before and after Knights Point, Ship creek walks x2, waterfalls. An overnight stay is recommended to have two brilliant travel days.
Take snacks and a flask though, it's remote and you may not find something open when you are hungry. And sandfly repellent, and long clothes!

We only stayed in Haast for 2 nights as a stopover between Queenstown and Franz Josef. Although there is not a lot to do apart from various walks and some fishing we did do a day trip down to Jackson Bay. A lovely little village on the edge of the ocean and they have a great seafood restaurant.

Jackson's Bay was probably beautiful in the sun, it was pouring down whilst we were there!! There is nothing to see at Haast- The beach isOK but there are the awful black bitingfies in their droves, other than that it is just a place to break a journey if necessary.

Haast is a nice remote location close to the seashore and national park. When travelling there are the facilities that you would need, but limited in choices. There is a Pub and Cafe where you can eat, but beware of their hours of operation. Wifi and cell service seeks to be restrictive in the region should you be needing it.
Great host, she is very sociable with each guests and takes good care of them, keeps kitchen always neat and clean, loves gardening and often watering plants in garden lounge, guests enjoy to sit and relax here.
Best location in Haast township, supermarket ON THE SPOT 30sec., Spiker Cafe 1min., Restaurant The Hard Antler 2min., daytime crapes cart and whitebait carts come near here, intercity bus stop is in front of hostel entrance.
Hostel has 3 bikes, I biked to Jackson Bay and enjoyed this good bike.
Personally we really like this kind of lodge, the owner is very kind and happy to share stories with you. The grounds are very well kept, the room was super clean and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch out our door. A 2 minute walk is a very good restaurant, The Hard Antler, my venison bolognaise was delicious. Our stay in Haast and the Heritage Park Lodge is something we'll always remember.
Large, very clean and well appointed unit with big bathroom and excellent shower. Excellent location for exploring Jackson Bay area and general Haast region. Spent five days exploring walking tracks in the area and visited The Craypot at Jackson Bay three times. Had an excellent holiday, highly recommend this motel.
Aspire Motel, Haast offers very nice accommodation. The rooms are very well equipped and comfortable. I had a view to hills from my room and was able to park the car outside. The bathroom and kitchen are also lovely. The WiFi offered good signal strength.
Super clean, amazing shower pressure! Room was so clean and comfortable, staff was very friendly, cute new years eve bbq , free parking, petrol station nearby, beach nearby, grocery store nearby. Lovely stay!
We had one night at the Heartland Haast Hotel. Our room had everything we needed and was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Meals were of a good standard. Oh the views were so lovely too.
Location. A 4 minute walk to the most magnificent beach. This place is close to the edge of total wilderness. The miles of empty beaches that face the southern oceans. Mesmerizing.
Susie was outstanding: very interesting & knowledgeable. The motel is a nice little oasis in an area with few tourist facilities. It is clean & comfortable.
Very friendly helpful receptionist. Hotel is older but room was clean and comfortable, and quite well appointed. Good basic pub meals in the restaurant.
The backdrop of the hotel was 1st class. Having the pub walking distance was perfect after a long drive. Perfect find in a beautiful part of the country
