Everything was just exceptional!
The beautiful entrance/lobby. The rooms were clean and really wide. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. It's a bit outside of town and the hotel is in a more quiet area which we preferred.

Incredible experience from start to finish. I only stayed one night, but I felt immediately at home and could not have been happier. The private, in-room onsen was the highlight of the room without question. Such a wonderful way to unwind and I spent hours in there. They keep the onsen very hot, hotter than most I've been to, but it's easy to add cold water to cool it down and if you go too far, a call to the front desk will have hot water piping back in. I enjoyed soaking while watching the snow fall through the open window - and was very comfortable!
The room was extremely spacious with sliding partitions for each area, so if traveling with a partner or family, it would be easy to create privacy when needed. In-room amenities were great. Nice lotions, soaps, etc. Lighting in the room was very nice - I believe about 6 different settings you can choose from to create the mood you're looking for.
The meals were absolutely top notch and unforgettable, both the dinner and breakfast. I can't say enough good things but the food surpassed all my expectations. Simply lovely.
Checking in and out was very smooth and simple. It was easy to catch a taxi from directly outside Tobu Nikko station and when it was time to leave, the staff called a taxi for me.

This is my second time to Nikko but this time doing an overnight stay in Nikko and then then one night in Kinugawaonsen. And we did the Sengyogahara hike with Yunoko falls, Kegon falls and Chuzenji Lake besides exploring the Toshogu shrine. The Nikko pass is a value for money pass enabling us to explore the different places within Nikko and Kinugawaonsen. The timing was just right with the full blooms of sakura especially in the Toshogu shrine areas.

Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early.
Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early. Only a few are open after 7 pm. Beyond Central Nikko or in outer Nikko/ Oku-Nikko there are are more interesting scenic hiking trails and sightseeing spots. Need to plan as bus frequencies are affected by weather and waiting time can be long.

We visited quite a few places during our two week stay in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and then we took a two day bike ride from Imabari to Onomichi). Nikko was the most beautiful of the beautiful places we visited. Took a bus ride up the hill and hiked in the forest which boasts two types of bear, deer and monkeys. The temple was beautiful and we enjoyed trying local food. We each had a "Yuba set" at a local restaurant.

The rooms were freezing cold no heating and it was -5 inside the hotel. They provided us with one thin blanket nothing like advertised, the windows were open and unable to close. We are having to seek medical help as one of my friends has developed hypothermia. No food no drink and the toilet facility does not flush.
Said in advert the beds would be made up for us. After a vicious scolding by the owners wife we had to awkwardly make up our own beds with no instructions at all.
If you like being shouted at, sleeping on a solid cold floor with a stone for a pillow this is definitely the place for you.
Didn't really wanna even give the one star but no choice for 0*.

Nikko is a lovely small place.
Nikko is a lovely small place. The local Chinese on the high street has amazing food, it has a very small door and would be easy to miss, but make the effort to find it.
The temples are amazing, but I loved the mountains, if you like trekking then you will love Nikko.

Fabulous place to visit with the right balance between nature walks and temple and shrine visits. Our favorite visits were Toshogu and Rinno-ji Temples, a day trip to Chuzenji Lake and Kegon Falls with a walk towards the Italian and English Embassy residences was beautiful. If you still have time, the Imperial Tomozawa Villa is worth spending a couple of hours at. We did everything by bus and it was very well organised. Train station has convenient coin lockers for luggage and a Yamato counter to deliver your luggage at your hotel so you can start visiting without being troubled.
Hotel’s shuttle bus is provided to/from train station which is very convenient. The staff are very helpful, and polite. Hotel is very near Nikko Heritage area just a minute walk. The room is provided all amenities you need, big room, clean with beautiful mountain view. Live piano play at the lobby at 8pm every night. We stayed 3 days and we enjoyed great experience of yummy breakfast and dinner which the menu was changed every days. We loved onsen very much and there are 4 onsen available for lady (3 outdoors and 1 indoor).
We were so glad to have supported this Family-run business, the staff were all so welcoming and ready to go above and beyond for us. We happened to being staying in Nikko during the off-peak season (Early May) so not much was open around the area, but the staff even called up a local restaurant that was tucked away behind the hotel, and booked us a table when we were stranded! Also the natural Onsen - which smells like the most fragrant flowers, is gorgeous! and the smell stays with you all day <3 <3
For our trip to Nikko, we could not have asked for a better stay in a traditional Japanese home, with a better host. He has been the most amazing host. He speaks English very well. We traveled during winter. So, he made plans for our 3 -day trip accordingly. He was kind enough to pick us up from the station. He has such a jolly personality, interacting with him, will make one's experience richer. We are definitely going back to Nikko in a different season, and we plan to stay at this place again!
We had a brief but wonderful stay. Comfortable and spacious, great location close to town/trains/buses/food. The host were the best part. So kind and thoughtful. They provided us with so many useful tips for navigating the bus system, finding trails to hike, and making the most of our time in Nikko. Nikko is a great destination for those seeking a mix of Japanese history/culture and beautiful nature. If we return, and I hope we do, we would certainly stay at this location again. Thank you!
The property had a large and beautiful premium suite with a private bath. The room is plentiful for one person. The hotel had great dinner and breakfast that was included at the stay. You can walk around the hotel to view the Japanese garden, Japanese arts, and aquariums around the building. Finally, the service was excellent. They had an English speaker who helped with all my needs. Great hotel that is close to Nikko station.
The best traditional japanese hotel you could stay during your holiday in Nikko. The location is perfect it is right next to the world heritage sites (Rinnoji temple and others).
The staff was really kind, they even pushed the elevator button for me!
Also the onsen is cute, private, clean and quiet. The cute yukatas we received were just the cherry on top!
the Ryokan is situated in a beautiful area, an unexpectedly scenic drive from Nikko on the shuttle bus up into the mountains then beside a lake to the hotel. The end of November too late for autumn colour but this made for a lovely view through the trees to the lake and mountains behind from our bath on the verandah and the public onsen. Very relaxing!
Yoshi and his wife were the perfect hosts in every way. This was our favourite lodging in Japan. Nikko is a place where wished we'd stayed for a few more days and Sanga Nikko was a charming and welcoming small hotel. with only four or five rooms, and a shared kitchen/lounge area. Interesting conversations with fellow travellers guaranteed.
An authentic ryokan set about 30 minutes from downtown Nikko. The food is fantastic although set in a large dining hall buffet style. Fresh sushi,crab and various meat and noodle offerings. The Olsen part was authentic. Most everyone walks around in Japanese robes . Close to river nice walking.
The location of the hotel is excellent! It is close to the local buses that take you to all the tourist destinations. It is a short walk distance from the JR Station of Nikko as well. I also love how there's a simple free breakfast every morning! The staff were really helpful and lovely.
Super clean Japanese-style apartment with private bathroom and toilet and futons for sleeping. Location is great along the main road in Nikko so the sites are a walk / hike away.
The owner is very nice and friendly. Definitely recommend this as a place to stay in Nikko.
Very close to Tobu Nikko station;
Room is very big as compared to model budget hotel;
Personally I like the 70s style of the hotel;
The hotel is managed by an old couple (I guess they are couple) who don't speak much English but they will try their best to help
Would recommend the meal in the room in Japanese's style room. It was not what I picked but it looked like a nice experience. Hotel are within walking distance to temples. Great Location. No need to buy the local bus pass. Use Tokyo Bus pass to get around.
I enjoyed my stay in this place. I would highly recommend it. The staff was very friendly. The private onsen was amazing. There are no restaurants nearby to have dinner, but the hotel would provide free transportation service to the restaurants in Nikko.
The hotel is in oku nikko which surrounded by nature.
If you love nature or snow in winter. This is a perfect place to stay.
Outside Onsen also surrounded by snow but unfortunately we cannot see the star that day.
Wonderful location!
The owner was super friendly!
Foods are amazing!
Private onsen!
Recommend it to everyone who likes local hotel in Japan and is experienced in hospitality.
I love the style of hotel Japanese vintage. They concerns the things we requested that I appreciate. I didn’t eat beef they rearranged the meal without beef.
Hotel was accessible to many places and near the station. Rooms are old Japanese styl, spacious
but clean. Free coffee at the lobby too, which is great.
