I consider myself an uncomplicated person. This place met all the expectations I had. Nice staff, some of them could speak very good english; nice lobby, clean rooms with all needed amenities and everyday housekeeping service (this is something I really appreciate). The location is only a few meters away the main train station and there is also a 7/11 almost next to the hotel. Very nice area and even though you can see the rooms are not modern, it was still a nice place to stay, considering the low price. The even gave us some coupons to use at the restaurant but unfortunately we did not have the time to use them.

Aizu is a perfect spot for a 2-3 day trip.
Aizu is a perfect spot for a 2-3 day trip. I liked particularly the castle, which is just gorgeous now in winter. And I bet it is beautiful also in other seasons as well. On top of that I enjoyed other attractions too.

This is a great place, and all the sites are in a roughly 10 kilometer circle from the station. I put my suitcase in a locker at the station for the day, then rented a bicycle for ¥500 from a shop 800 meters from the station. (Turn right at the street in front of the station. The shop is on the left 800 meters down.)
I realized later that there is a tourist bus that stops at all the sites and has a running commentary on where you are. That would have been more practical for me. The bus costs ¥600 yen for a day pass, which can be bought at the bus station in front of the train station.

Aizu Wakamatsu is a nice place.
Aizu Wakamatsu is a nice place. It’s not very touristy but the tourist bus is a great way to get around and see all the main sights. One day wasn’t long enough. I think two days would be sufficient. There weren’t many restaurants open during lunchtime

Very short visit prior to a ski week.
Very short visit prior to a ski week. It is conveniently located and easily accessible via trains or buses. The city isn't too big and explorable on foot. Locals are very friendly and helpful. We had such a wonderful time at a local Izakaya even with our little Japanese. We were recommended a few dishes and they were all so delicious.

Loved Tsuruga Castle (Teahouse garden ticket does not include tea drink) and Sazaedo Temple (escalator ramp is worth it). Oyakuen Gardens is not worth the entrance fee during late fall and winter (herb garden is dead). A Ryokan and onsen experience is a must at Aizuwakamatsu (Shosuke no Yado Takinoyu was awesome). Also made our own Akabeko (red cow) at Akabeko Maker Bandokoro. All in all, a wonderful 1 night trip to get away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo traffic. P.S. Try a full size order of Sauce Katsudon at Medetaiya (I dare you).

Aizu is a town filled with rich history as a prominent Japanese political figure once lived here. Those who like ancient Japanese history should check out the castle, the graves of the brave warriors, to learn about what took place in this town during the Warring State period of ancient Japan.
This is an impressive onsen hotel. All rooms face the natural mountain side above a fast moving river. The lobby is exceptional with live traditional shamisen music played nightly before the dinner hour. A river of water cascades through the ground floor of the lobby which adds the sound of rustling water. Guests may have (optional reserved) dinner meals in rooms near the moving water. All in all the lobby, onsen, food, and staff make for a relaxing location. The river views in any season are amazing.
A few days before the start of our journey, the hotel contacted us to say that they were unfortunately unable to provide us with the room due to work. However, they offered to book a room for us at their partner hotel, which was only a few minutes' walk away at Kutsurogijuku Shintaki.
The staff were very accommodating and even when we asked for a vegan dinner, everything was made possible.
We were very satisfied.
The staff were extremely helpful - the free shuttle service was very convenient, and on one day when we were walking back to the hotel in the rain the driver recognised us and stopped to pick us up! The food was delicious with a great range of choice, the onsen was beautiful, the location was great. Just a great stay! The room was a little smaller than I expected, but very comfortable with everything we needed.
The hotel is far away from everything in a mountain and don’t have restaurants ! There is only one restaurant 5 min walking distance but if you are not Japanese they don’t allow you to eat! They are very racist! I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and I just could eat a sandwich from a 7eleven ! Horrible experience ! And very expensive hotel ! Also the hotel is very old and dirty
The view on the river is great. Breakfast was really good. Check in staff is very professional. The entrance looks great. The hotel has a very interesting of a collection of figures illustrating traditional festival scenes - like those in museums. The hotel seems to have potential to recover and hope it will get there soon!
There are three bath options which all came with lovely views! Also, both meals were outstanding. Despite being a buffet service, the breakfast had abundant high quality options. I love that they really stuck to their theme of using Aizu ingredients - a proud hotel with pride for their local culture is something admirable.
The property is quite convenient for those within Aizuwakamatsu area. I came by bicycle though so I am unsure of the bus timings, prices, etc. A cab is quite pricey though for a short trip, as I had researched. The hot spring was the right temperature though, despite not having an outdoor option. A great value though.
We booked this hotel is to experience a typical Japanese culture including the dinner and breakfast and we certainly were not disappointed. The setting of the hotel, room, dinning area and the onsen are ready impressive. The staff is very friendly, and we enjoyed the stay very much.
A wonderful ryokan in Aizuwakamatsu, with the most helpful and diligent staff! I never went a day without being completely full, my breakfast and dinner were absolutely wonderful! The bath area was calming and spotless clean! Cannot recommend this place enough!
Love everything in the hotel. The room and facilities are great. The traditional Japanese food (breakfast and dinner) was fabulous and good taste. Easy to access by car with comfortable parking and transfer service between hotel and parking lot.
A nice place to stay while you discover the Samurai City Aizu-Wakamatsu
The hotel is close to the Train Station and the Bus Station.
The staff are nice.
The room is tidy and clean.
The breakfast is quite good.
The staff (from Hotel Shousuke no Yado Takinoyu who are also in charge of Yukkura Inn) are really helpful but only a few of them speak English.
Possibility of borrowing a bike for free;
wonderful onsens
The room and the hotel are very clean. Our room is very big and comfort. Staffs are very nice and helpful. Nice spa (inside and outside) but we prefer the outside.
it was authentic delicious beautiful and comfortable; hoteliers were responsive with questions or requests; dinner and breakfast were beautiful and exceptional
