Rural setting. Good food. Swimming pools. Very obliging staff. We like Palaia, the local town — and enjoy the c25 minute walk from Borgo Colleoli. We also like I Tigli, the family run restaurant nearby.

A truly relaxing break in such a beautiful setting - the photos do not do it justice. Definitely a treat but worth the expense. Our room was lovely and we enjoyed all of the facilities: pool, spa, gardens, food / bar. Yes, the hotel kitchen only does breakfast and lunch but (1) there is a good bar menu to go with sundowners and (2) there are plenty of great restaurants nearby which the staff are happy to recommend / book. And their help is readily offered - we booked a cooking class and taxis through reception, and found everyone to be friendly and helpful. The hotel is isolated (which adds to its charm), so we would recommend hiring a car so that you're not limited to taxis and can take the odd day trip around Tuscany during your stay, to nearby San Miniato or even Lucca / Florence / Pisa / Livorno which are all within an hours' drive or so.

The buzzing electric socket, the twin beds tied together, the broken shower door, the calcified shower head, the hairdryer strategically placed beside the overflowing shower, the thin and dated duvet, the veranda that could not contain more than half a person standing, the kitchenette that had no kitchenware but did half plastic knives and cups but no kettle, dishes or anything useful. Very clean room with a large bathroom. Close to San Miniato. Breakfast wasn't available during our stay but we were given a voucher for a local cafe which we enjoyed.
