Grado is a great place to base yourself for a few days.
Grado is a great place to base yourself for a few days. It is a marine town with tons of boats. We would eat our gelato in front of the marina every night.
We were here for two main sights.
First was birding the nature preserve. We rented bikes in town. We saw quite a few shore birds like heron and ibis and our first flamingo in the wild.
Second was the Roman town of Aquillia. If you are a fan of Roman history you have to see this place. Some of the best Roman mosaics in the world.

The destination in main tourist seasons is little bit crowded as it is small island and parking there might be challenging on some days, but once settle Grado provides great variety of Italian restaurants with cuisine you will fall for. It is an interesting town with very different parts, old and new. It is well kept with lovely flower beds. There are some very good restaurants...we try to visit once a year and always go to Tony's restaurant which is excellent. We stayed in Pineta this year for the first time where the car parking was demanding !!

We did book the hotel randomly because we wanted to spend a night in Grado and didnt have time the previous days to book. When we arrived, the hotel condition did exceed our expectation. Hotels staff are friendly from the first time we step foot in the hotel (Yes, it's you, reception guy, forgot to check the name though). Bar, restaurant staff are friendly as well. On the breakfast you will be given a paper / list of things you want to have. The portions what are coming are quite small actually - but I am sure you can order again.
We were looking for a short stay (2 nights) in Grado at the end of our Alpe-Adria bike tour and we were lucky to find a room available at Hotel Merano. Super friendly and professional staff, clean and spacious room (with had our own balcony), excellent breakfast (including musli and cold cuts!! and good bread). Room design is updated and there is a nice lobby with a TV where we watched the Euro finals (Italy won!).
We highly recommend it as a place to stay in Grado.
Their scrambled eggs are the best in the universe, just like their Nutella croissant! The breakfast is delicious and abundant, the room is clean and quiet, and the neighbourhood is fantastic. From the top of the Hotel you can enjoy a fantastic view of the city and the beach. What else do you need for a fantastic stay? Strongly recommended. Thank you for the opportunity, I hope we can visit this Hotel in the future!
Staff is amazing, always ready to help with any requests. Good breakfast salty and sweet. Very good position, not far from the beach...
Parking available outside the Hotel or inside is really cheap.
Rooms are ok, if you're lucky to have a balcony even better. If you want towels changed you just need to leave them on the floor and you'll get fresh ones.
I would say it was a great experience***
the hotel is great, in a great location. everything is clean, tidy and the rooms have everything necessary for a pleasant stay. The hosts are very kind and pleasant. It is located near the center and the beach itself, and everything around is peaceful and quiet. I recommend and we will definitely come back again 😊
The breakfast buffet is sensational! There is a large selection of fruits and desserts. Eggs and coffee can be ordered. The view from the (not heated) rooftop pool is very nice. Bicycles can be obtained free of charge from the hotel for a trip to the city.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, also the terrace is a great feature. The neighborhood is calm and not too far away from Centre, close to the beach. One of the receptionists was very helpful and told us a lot of helpful information about Grado.
The young man at check-in (Eduardo I think his name is) was great. Very friendly, very helpful in explaining everything. His english was very good. The location is in Grado center. Our room had a beauiful outlook over the canals.
Staff was super nice. The place was really spacious and comfortable. The location was perfect as it's right in the centre of Grado, a 5min walk from the beach. There's a supermarket right next to Villa Flora too.
The accommodation is a flat with kitchen and a terrace, very comfortable and clean. It is not in the centre of Grado but not far away by foot and there is a supermarket in the corner for everything you need.
