This is a hidden gem - I would come back to the Snafellsness peninsula just to stay in this hotel again. The view all around is breathtaking - you have it all - the glacier, the magnificent mountains and a waterfall, lava fields and the black rocky beaches hidden behind pink sand dunes. Do not miss the hike behind the hotel and do it before 10am to have a complete solitude from tourists. Restauarnt and bar are top notch.
We loved staying at this lovely hotel. It is in a picturesque setting with lovely views to the ocean and mountains from our corner room. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious. The decor is in keeping with the era of the hotel, very retro with vintage furniture and furnishings.
The restaurant was very good, the food and service excellent.
The hotel is more expensive than others of the same class in Iceland but it is unique in it’s history and location.
I actually booked this for my clients (I'm a travel agent) and Budir Hotel exceeded their and my expectations. It was their 25th wedding anniversary and they actually renewed their vows in the Black Church behind the hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make their stay very special, even giving them a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival. I will definitely use them for all my future clients to travel to that region. Thank you so much!
Very nice location next to the Budir black church. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Our room had a nice view, over the water towards snow-capped mountains. The restaurant serves really good food and the French sommelier knows his wines. The overall feel is a mix between hotel pampering and visiting your favourite old aunt; the latter mainly because of the old (antique?) furniture and embroidered table clothes in the restaurant.
A lonely place with an excellent restaurant and a historical ambience, good for exploring Snaefellsnes and the peninsula. Walking, hiking, a beautiful waterfall just across the valley, visible from the lounge, the ocean nearby, good for a trip watching northern lights and generally a very quiet and comfortable resting place. Very helpful staff.
Location, setting, charm and coziness. And the outstanding views! Friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant is excellent and includes several vegan options, though it is relatively expensive. Excellent bread and butter. Breakfast buffet a little underwhelming with less than attentive staff compared to the one we enjoyed at our hotel in Reykjavik.
The hotel is set out all on it’s own and the surrounding area is spectacular. The staff were amazing and so very kind. You could tell they all liked their job. Because of the location, you can walk out the door and take a stroll along the cliffs. There is a hiking trail that leaves from the little church just a stone’s throw from the hotel.
We loved everything about the hotel. The location for a visit to the peninsula is perfect; it avoids long trips back to, for example, Borgarnes. The restaurant was terrific too. The only complain is that the bathrooms, especially the shower facilities are a bit outdated. That would not stop me from recommending the hotel to friends.
Absolutely Fantastic . The best hotel in our stay in Iceland. The natural scenery around the hotel is breathtaking.
The food from the restaurant is amazing !
You can leave the hotel and walk near the ocean in various beautiful trails .
We had a great night sleep !
The famous black church is just a few steps away from the hotel.
Absolutely loved the remote location for a real relaxing experience. There are seals that travel up the stream next to the hotel once the tide comes in. Every window within the property has the most breathtaking views of the surrounding. Also the perfect place to see the northern lights.
It was an excellent place to stay. The location, staff, restaurant were all top notch and well above expectation. I would go back any time of the year. The hotel was very cozy and friendly. You have to go to the restaurant on site and the cocktails were tasty as well.
Very remote location, the hotel was perfect. The staff was very courteous and we enjoyed the areas to relax around the lobby. Very beautiful hotel. Excellent food.
location was beautiful!!! the hotel and its historic background, the design, with small sitting areas beautiful and cozy. rooms were clean. breakfast was great!
