Wigtown is a stunning location to explore Dumfries and Galloway. Beautiful village with a very good choice of shops, cafes and especially book shops. Lovely architecture and places of interest to easily walk from the village. Pretty community garden in the centre of the village.
Vibrant community spirit with activities, services and events posted throughout the village. Although we did not use, there appeared to be a good bus service. The locals were very friendly and offered suggestions for walks and places to visit.

It was difficult to find anywhere local to eat in the evening, a number of local pubs and restaurants have closed or are only open occasionally. On Thursday night there was nowhere nearby to eat as the local Cobwebs restaurant ( where we enjoyed an very good meal on the Wednesday) is closed on Thursday and even the chip shop was only open on Friday and Saturday night. The Bladdennoch inn nearby was open for food but only by chance as the chef was in to prepare for the weekend and served passing customers up until 7:30!
A number of the shops also have what could be described as flexible opening hours - some of them were never open during our stay, which slightly spoiled our visit.

Wigtown is Scotland's official book town, as such, there are a lot of second hand bookshops and plenty of bargains to be had. ReadingLasses bookshop is also a fabulous cafe with the best cakes I have ever tried. A walk to the Marshes is a must and there are lovely walks all around, if you are looking for a peaceful respite this is a fabulous place

Wigtown is the book capital of Scotland with a great selection of shops offering new and second hand books. If you want a relaxing base then this is the place which is also a historical spot where witches were drowned in the nearby bay. Lots of other good places to visit around the Dumfries and Galloway area too.

We went to Wigtown for the Bookshops.
We went to Wigtown for the Bookshops. Plenty of parking available, Wigtown was a lovely peaceful town. It was challenging finding places to eat in the evening as there were still Corona Virus restrictions in place.
What can I say. Craigmount is a beautiful, pleasant, home away from home. The owners are attentive, friendly and professional. Nicole makes a wonderful breakfast and her husband brings the banter to the table. I would highly recommend a stay over if you are passing through the beautiful town of Wigtown. The owners make you feel warm and welcome and put a smile on your face. Thank you.
Perfect for a short stay in Wigtown! Everything you need in a compact, central space. Entry through the shop was very charming. Very clean and provided all the basics needed for the stay, like washing-up liquid, a fresh sponge, hand soap, etc. etc. (It's amazing how many places DON'T provide such things!) We slept really well on the comfy bed.
The location is excellent for Wigtown - very close yet very quiet. The staff were phenomenal, going out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. They pride themselves on local ingredients for the kitchen and the quality shines through in every delicious bite. The room was cozy, clean, and very functional.
We had a lovely stay at Craigmount which is ideally situated for exploring the bookshops in Wigtown. The owners were extremely helpful, the rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. An added bonus was being able to sit in the beautifully kept gardens in the glorious sunshine.
Excellent location right in the centre of Wigtown. Easy parking.
The property was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The owner had left biscuits, tea and coffee as well as essentials like toilet paper, soap and washing up liquid.
Hillcrest House is a wonderful place to stay. Large comfortable rooms and a very good breakfast. The house is set in a quiet location of Wigtown with a beautiful garden and plenty of parking. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming.
Fab location, super quiet and an absolute surprise of amazing space. And huge thanks to Allan who came and helped with the fire, we were super grateful. Fab service! Wigtown proved an inspirational little place to be ❤️
I had a really comfortable and relaxing stay. The hosts were great, the building is simultaneously spotless and welcoming. Wigtown is a nice place to visit also, so in all things considered I had a perfect experience.
The welcome pack was just perfect. There was lovely outside space. Although on one of the main roads in Wigtown - you would never have known when inside the house - it was serene and comfortable.
