Self-contained, ground floor apartment with parking and patio, hotel in Walmer

Offering quiet street views, Self-contained, ground floor apartment with parking and patio is an accommodation set in Walmer, 2.5 km from Deal Castle and 4.9 km from Sandown Castle.

My friend and I had 24 hours child and husband free and came to Margate for a night to be just us and celebrate 25 years friendship. We arrived late after being down the beach and watching the sunset, the apt was beautiful and very comfortable. We were very pleasently surprised. Everything you could need was in the kitchen including a beautiful smelling candle to help relax after a long day of walking while we got out the face masks. There was toothpaste shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom, very comfy bed and nice quality duvet. Very pretty garden which we enjoyed a few quiet brews in that night and early morning with the birds singing. Perfect for our stay, very peaceful. The ONLY negative for us was the seating, it's very nice and cosy but after a long day a sofa or armchair would have been nice, but it definitely wouldn't put us off staying again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Holiday Inn Dover, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Walmer

Set in peaceful landscaped gardens, Holiday Inn Dover is just 10 minutes from Dover’s bustling Ferry Port and famous White Cliffs. It has free parking, a gym, and a themed restaurant.

Basic hotel, but perfectly adequate and convenient for one night before catching an early ferry to France the next morning. The Bella Italia restaurant on site was rather nicer than expected. Overall, pretty good value for money.

The Bell Hotel, hotel in Walmer

On the quayside, overlooking the river, in the historic port of Sandwich, this recently refurbished traditional hotel offers free Wi-Fi, an impressive restaurant and elegant, modern rooms.

The Bell Hotel is "very good." We traveled by train to/from London, and 1/2 mile walk to hotel flat. Two security guards at station did volunteer to help us with rollaway luggage over the tracks, but otherwise it was an easy walk to hotel. It is ideally situated in Sandwich, a quiet Medieval town. Walking paths by and around river and town, which my wife enjoyed while I play golf at RSG's one of the two mornings we stayed there are extensive and are used by locals; my wife felt very safe. (RSG will pick you up and return you.) Fish and Chips traditional and excellent; breakfast off-the-menu very good, and staff friendly. Beware there is no elevator, and the stairs are steep to room. But room with view of River Stour, open doors, and small balcony, fit our tastes. PS Namaste restaurant in alley behind hotel is excellent for Indian food and jammin' on a Thursday night. I hear from local source that Luigi's is also very good.

The beach is on walking distance and a lot of nice little towns you can visit nearby. We have especially liked our visit to Walmer Castle and gardens. One of the nicest grounds I have visited in England.

We visited the area for a wedding at Kingsdown. Walmer was an excellent location for the weekend. We walked to Deal one evening and caught the train back to Walmer at the end of the night. It was great to have the station nearby.

Lovely walking along the beach front both to the south towards Kingsdown and to the north to Deal and Sandwich. Fascinating castles in Walmer and Deal. Good choice of takeaways nearby. We chose Seaview fish and chips which was excellent and Dominos as we wanted home delivery. The pier makes a nice walk and the restaurant/cafe at the end of the pier serves lovely food including cakes!
