Great staff - we visited just before they had the builders move in for redecoration and redevelopment. Lovely location and really pleasant part of the world.

We had a very friendly welcome from Pedro (and a good chat about cars) and all the staff were really pleasant and helpful throughout our stay.
The original building is several centuries old, as depicted in a number of paintings and early photographs. The main bar area and restaurant are in a newer c.20th extension and are spacious and airy but less characterful than the old parts. Toilets are modern and very clean. There is plenty of off-road parking.
Outside there are well-maintained grounds with several separate lawned areas on two sides and an extensive pergola-covered patio with heaters. The early May weather was good so we were able to have drinks outside when we arrived in the afternoon, and before and after dinner.
The beer, wine and food at dinner were excellent, although our mains did take over 40 minutes to arrive.
We had a really nice room in the oldest part of the building. A very nice touch was the home made shortbread in our room and the complementary bottle of ale and Prosecco in the fridge in addition to the usual bottled water. This was the second Butcombe Inn I’ve stayed in, and I’ll be aiming to try others in the future.
