Central. Harbour walk outside the door. Choice of cafes. Staff generally good but could have been more enthusiastic to help. Sitting outside of a morning in the sun and enjoying a coffee. Unfortunately my stay was upset by a dodgy tummy after a meal in Milton Keynes so not able to use restaurant or breakfast. Menus looked interesting, though prices looked a little high unless food excellent. Concierge helpful regarding parking car.

The location of the hotel is great, looking out onto the River Stour. We were upgraded to a large room with a view, which was perfect. We discovered a fantastic walk through a forest to Old Knobbley, an 800 year old oak tree. We were also told by the women in the tea shop opposite the hotel that the Mistley Thorn had been the house of the witchfinder general, an interesting piece of history. The hotel was beautifully and tastefully decorated. It feels like a destination, which is nice.
The Fryatt Hotel & Bar is located between Harwich International Port and Harwich Town Station, 1.5 miles from the town centre. It features its own pub serving classic ales.

This is an ancient building on several levels, beams, low ceilings, some steep stairs and so on, but none of that was a problem. The room was a well-converted roof-space seemingly not long done, with new decorations, carpet and shower-room fittings.
