Cheddar Gorge is very impressive. We had rather bad weather so wwren't able to walk along the top, which I imagine would be lovely on a good day. Gough's cave is worth visiting - and you get to see the cheese stored there. Cox' s cave is more of a new age experience with lights and sounds etc. Actually I think that it would have been rather intersting ib it's natural state!

Very interesting area, lots to see and do but the attractions all seemed very expensive. The gorge is really impressive though, Plenty of cafes and restaurants, we had a few good pub meals and lovely ice cream. Staff at the Riverside Inn were very helpful with providing gluten free food. Spent a nice day at the Chew Valley lakes where there is a gluten free chip shop (a rarity!). Lovely countryside, however, it was very busy. The noisy bikes and cars whizzing around at over the speed limit spoiled it a bit for us. It was quite dangerous walking along the gorge in some places.

Fabulous beautiful scenery lots of cute cafes and little shops x historical tours and information gorgeous Italian restaurant called la rocca x turn up as early as you can otherwise parking is very difficult x

Cheddar Gorge is a fantastic natural phenomenon. Exploring the caves is an absolute must and you are given a Wi-Fi device to use for an audio explanation as to how the caves were formed. Jacobs Ladder isn’t for the faint hearted, 274 steps in all but once at the top a short climb up the viewing tower is a must, amazing view all round. We walked along the path at the top of the gorge which just keeps giving more and more spectacular photo opportunities. I would recommend you go earlier in the morning to ensure you get a parking place as during the later part of the morning everything seemed to be very busy . Plenty of little cafes and quaint tea rooms to check out but beware of the prices !!

Location only Not "hotel" its a pub This place is a glorified pub.It was crowded in the bar on arrival with no quiet reception area.You just have to join the pub crowd at the bar. Good job I left my luggage in the car. There is no comfy lounge or quiet space whatsoever. The room was big noisy with windows that did not close.The Bathroom is in need of TLC. It was draughty & cold. The guy who received me was polite but the woman in the morning was positively rude to me. The girl serving breakfast looked like she was doing me a favour- she was hostile with no eye contact. Breakfast was disgusting with stale muffins Lathered in Hollandase; this was not stated on menu & is disgusting to me. The spinach beneath the eggs were sopping wet with water seeping into the muffins. Having driven from Falmouth this was a huge disappointment. It is not a Hotel just a pub with rooms so do not be misled by the lovely architecture of Bath stone!

Cheddar is a great town to visit, on the condition that travellers choose it with the right expectations in mind. That is, don't go for the cheese, and don't go for the caves! An attraction worthy of a visit once upon a time, the caves have been converted into an overpriced tourist trap. An entrance fee of £23 per person is just ridiculous, and although this ticket theoretically also gives access to other "attractions", none of these other "attractions" are even remotely worth visiting. So DO NOT bother with the caves, it's not worth the money, and don't encourage this kind of of shameless cash grab. Two of the "attractions" included in the £23 ticket are stairs and lookout tower, by the way, which can be climbed and visited for free if hiking around the Cheddar gorge in clockwise direction! The cheddar gorge hike is about 2.5 hours long, and weather permitting, the star attraction of Cheddar. It shouldn't be missed, but requires decent hiking shoes and physical fitness. Secondly, the cheese. Cheddar is famous for its cheese, but in reality, it turns out only a single company still makes cheese in Cheddar. The factory is a 5 minute walk away from Cheddar Gorge and can be visited for £2.5, but a tour will only keep you occupied for about 15 minutes -- there really isn't that much to see or do. So a visit of the cheese factory is worthwhile and good value, but don't expect it to be a day trip. In summary, if prepared to do the hike around Cheddar Gorge in reasonable weather conditions, and combined with a good dinner at La Rocca restaurant and a tour around the factory, it's a nice day out for a family. But if you're going to Cheddar expecting caves and cheese, you're probably going to be disappointed.
