We stayed at the Royal Oak for 4 nights while visiting family. Steve could not do enough for us, always checking in with us that everything was to our liking and offering advice on things to do in the area. The pub had a cozy, real British pub feel to it. The room was large and very comfortable. Everything we needed was provided. Would highly recommend it, and we would definitely stay here again. Thanks again Steve 🙂

Hotel Rudyard, hotel in Biddulph

This 3-star country hotel is set on the edge of Rudyard Lake. Offering a beautiful setting, Hotel Rudyard has 12 attractive rooms, a restaurant and bar.

We stayed on a Wednesday night due to attending a wedding reception nearby at The Ashes Barns Wedding Venue and were very pleased with the experience. Our room overlooked the front of the hotel and was spacious enough with good curtains to block out the light. While there was some noise from the car park, the size of the hotel means this is minimal and does not disturb. (There is a car park at the back of the hotel too.) The en-suite was functional if cramped but certainly fine for an overnight stay. We took dinner in the restaurant (Wednesday is now Curry Club night) and the food was of a very good standard. The Chicken Curry was very well done and the serving of Roast Beef in Yorkshire Pudding was sizeable; all the time the waiting team could not do enough to help. There seemed to be a number of locals in the bar eating and this is always a good sign. After a comfortable sleep, breakfast (included in out price) was also very good and to be recommended. Rooms are key operated with a fob to access the hotel after 11pm. By the time we returned from the wedding at about 11:30, the hotel was pretty much closed for the night but there was no issue letting ourselves in and to bed.

We did not eat locally, tending to cook for ourselves or, if travelling further afield finding somewhere nearby. Plenty of supermarkets locally to choose from. Buxton, especially the Pavilion Gardens, and Bakewell are well worth visiting. Locally Mow Cop is a must. We appreciated the floral displays in towns such as Congleton and were impressed by the lack of litter. Shame about the potholes everywhere!

Everything was excellent from our first to last day.

Everything was excellent from our first to last day. A good position to visit so many fantastic places from here and the scenery was outstanding. Weather was excellent during our stay. Hopefully we can get there again some time. Will be highly recommending to our family and friends. There are lots of good pubs to eat in and we never had any difficulty in finding one wherever we travelled. Some journeys included narrow roads so had to be doubly attentive of oncoming cars. Only travelled by car but noticed plenty of public transport available. Something for everyone with any interests can be found in the surrounding area. Good for cyclists.
