We were travelling to my son's wedding in the Loire Valley and needed somewhere to stay overnight off the N10. We just wanted somewhere to sleep and have breakfast for my husband, myself and my elderly father. The Étape de St Hilaire more than fulfilled our needs and expectations. Once we had caught the attention of our host (and possibly because I was able to converse in French with him) we had the friendliest of receptions. We were expecting just a couple of rooms but it was the whole of an apartment over the host's farmhouse. The location was off the main road so fairly quiet (just distant traffic noise) and the breakfast was superlative! The host's wife brought up a large basket of bread, croissants, homemade jams, homegrown damsons and eggs laid by their hens! It was just perfect.

We arrived late on a Sunday, and reception was closed, but staff had made every effort to arrange for our arrival. We were given a door code & the key was in reception; very smooth. Free parking outside. We didn't use the hotel facilities as it was a brief stopover. The garden would be nice in summer. The receptionist was friendly & helpful the following morning. Hotel info recommended a local pizza place that stays open daily, which was useful.
Vendôme is a beautiful place to visit, even in the rain! Hotel is a short walk (10 mins?) from the town centre.
