I needed to make the booking to stay at Le Sarment because my usual hotel in Hautvillers was booked out. Fortunately, this cottage is next door so it was very convenient. I booked very late on the day at about 7pm so it was a little bit frantic to obtain the security code to access the key box. Fortunately, I eventually reached the owner and he was helpful. The accommodation is smart and could accommodate a family of four (I was on my own). The kitchen area is well organised with a good selection of cooking equipment and basic cooking ingredients. The heating is excellent and easy to operate. The view from the master bedroom over the vineyards is good. I could also see the back of my normal hotel and see that my Jaguar E Type was safe in that hotel's courtyard.
Offering inner courtyard views, Cottage AU TERMINUS is an accommodation set in Hautvillers, 5.7 km from Epernay Train Station and 25 km from Villa Demoiselle.

The host was always available. She was friendly, helpful and informative It was in the centre of the village and near a bakery and cafe. In October the village was very quiet. The village was on a champagne tourist route with lots of day trippers but by the evening it was calm and quiet. Plenty of opportunities to taste champagne within the village- no need to drive! The flat gave us a lot of freedom.

The location was spot on for a visit to Hautvillers. Belle-Vue was a lovely apartment, very clean, spacious & well looked after. The second bedroom on the top floor was spectacular with an amazing balcony catching the sun in the morning. I'd definitely go back.
On the champagne tourist route. Visit the abbey where Dom Perignon is buried. Plenty of small champagne houses in the village. Lovely views over the valley. You need a car. It’s near other villages and Eperney. Only one or two shops. It does have a cafe and a bakery but no restaurants for evening meals.

Hautvillers is a small beautiful "Champenois" village.
Hautvillers is a small beautiful "Champenois" village. There is a lot of Champagne producers, big ones but also Vignerons Indépendants (small producers, making generally organic champagne). It definitely worth the stay, or the detour at least. We bought some fine champagne for my brother's wedding from a small producer, the wedding was in Spain, and everybody enjoyed it! You can access the village very easily from Reims or Epernay, go for multiple hikes in the forests around (e.g. the exceptional site of "Les Faux de Verzy"). You have a few restaurants and bars, but I would suggest to book something in Epernay or Reims for the evening diners. You have a huge supermarket near Epernay (5 min by car) but nothing in the village itself.
