A very beautiful town in Allgäu, worth a visit if you plan a vacation to Allgäu. A good place for skiing, hiking, cycling or winter vacation. The old town is very pretty with a lot of old buildings. Nice and lively village. Center is at the right size for tourism, and ski. (shops, cafés etc) However, the number of restaurant is not matching the number of tourist (ski season): it is nearly impossible to find a table for dinner in the evening. All is booked.

Oberstdorf has become a favorite place of mine, but I sense...
Oberstdorf has become a favorite place of mine, but I sense that few American travelers find their way to the resort. Curiously, the train station is perhaps unique in that it does not have a WC. The facilities are across the street behind another building, but I did not trundle my luggage there to investigate. Taxis seem to require a wait, especially in the morning rush hour to catch the early, direct train into Munich. Shops, stores and restaurants offer a nice variety.

Brilliant location for mountain walking and climbing with cable car up to Nebelhorn and buses to Fellhorn and Söllereck. Lovely riverside walks too. Lots of lovely places to eat out, but busy in August so reservations necessary. Quiet after 9.30pm. Good train connections and little need to use a car. Floral well-maintained holiday appartments with lots of balconies and terraces. Stunning views of the mountains, great alpine meadows and mountain lakes. If you like the sound of cow bells you'll love it!

Oberstdorf is a nice little town, with plenty of restaurants and everything is reachable by foot. It is ideal if you like nature, since there are a lot of hiking/walking routes. In the winter it is also good for skiing/snowboarding/langlaufen/snowshoeing/and more.

The breakfast was very good and lovely prepared every morning by the tenants. Information provided by the tenants every morning about hiking in the surroundings was very accurate and always great tipps. The restaurant facing the Landhaus is very good and practical for having dinner without driving back to Oberstdorf. Thank you for allowing us to spend great days at Spielmannsau!AAlexisGermany

They took great care of us from the moment we arrived, starting with a welcoming gift of a bottle of Glühwein. The in-room amenities, including board games, a coffee supply, and a lovely interior design, made our stay even more enjoyable. The apartments have their own garden access, and the view of the snow-capped peaks of the mountains from there is simply breathtaking. We were blown away by the incredible scenery. Good instructions from reception on how to find the car park (free, underground secure parking) and the apartment. Had a small balcony with chairs and a table, which was useful in the good weather. Good kitchen facilities for an apartment this size. A visitor pass was part of the package and this gave us free access to all the cable cars/gondolas as well as the buses - fantastic value.

It is a quiet, lovely little village with great views of all of the mountains. Easy to get to Oberstdorf by walking or bus. Gastehaus Luise was very resonably priced and we were delighted with the room, kitchen, and of course the amazing view!
