Like most of Bulgaria, the first trip on your own could be a little bewildering. Try not to use chain hotels and restaurants - customer-service is not part of staff training!! Ruse is a very sweet town on the Danube River, with beautiful architecture. We only spent two nights there but enjoyed some very excellent meals and did a little shopping. We also drove out to the Basarbova monestary nearby. .

Wonderful peaceful city on the Danube. The best gateway into Bulgaria. Often people are just passing through before or after crossing the Friendship Bridge by car or train, but it is definitely worth stopping a while.SusanBulgaria

The windows were large and had these massive sills you could sit in. Beautiful artwork and very comfortable room. Big bathroom too. They even upgraded my room for free. The staff was very nice and helpful and there is the best Chinese food restaurant ever inside the hotel. The bedroom area was recently renovated. The bathroom area had not been renovated and it was a little old and a bit dated. The walls are thin, so if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. A complimentary breakfast is included. It includes homemade waffles, fresh fruit and a variety of juices. The gym is decent (free), the sauna and swimming pool are too small to enjoy (approx 7,50 euro per hour).
