Offering an outdoor swimming pool, a garden and BBQ facilities, Isla Bonita Yacht Club is located in San Pedro Beach. Free WiFi access is available in all areas. The studio we rented (16B) was really homely and cosy - the bed was comfy, kitchen well equipped and living area was great. The Yacht Club is in a really quiet part of town but 10-15 minutes walk to the main bars & restaurants. The reception staff are exceptionally helpful and went above and beyond to retrieve a package which was being sent to us from the UK and had got delayed in the UPS delivery system. Really couldn’t have asked for any more!! There is a dive shop right on the sea front and Enes was super helpful in arranging diving and tours for us - she even provided recommendations based on our interests and personalities.

We try to spend five full days in San Pedro annually. For the first three trips, we rented a Golf Cart to see the far ends of the island. Now, we choose to stay downtown and walk to everything. SP is very safe, but don't leave anything in your cart. Meals can be pricy if you eat "non-local" foods - in other words, by eating at the smaller, less advertised venues, delicious, local food is very cheap! You can have a large meal for two at Neri's Tacos for under $10 US! El Fagon has the best ceviche we've ever had. It's a local restaurant with fairly low prices but get there before 6:30 PM unless you have reservations. The picture is of a Michelada served with a frozen beer. One appetizer of ceviche is a meal, so don't over-order! Red Ginger, Elvi's Kitchen, and Cool Beans have exceptional food and service but are non-local and expensive. The Palapa Bar is NOT WORTH IT! Embarrassingly, we've made the mistake of eating there twice - never again! The service is rude and surly. The food is very expensive and below-average. The entertainment is not good. We've stayed at Ramon's—excellent location, average food, no booze, but pricey; Xanadu, which is not very convenient and expensive; and Tradewinds Paradise Villas, which is reasonably priced and has an exceptional location. We liked Tradewinds Paradise Villas the best. It is within walking distance of everything downtown, has a beautiful pool with shade, and has outstanding management.
What I liked most of San Pedro was the people. They were so friendly and respectful at all times. I loved it so much that I’m considering moving to the country. Can’t wait to return for another visit. My favorite spots were Caye Caulker for excursions, great eating places were the Truck Stop, Lily’s Treasure Chest & Maxie’s along with our hotel restaurant just to name a few. Getting around the town we used golf carts which that’s what most of the city uses. They’re easy to rent and cash is king there. Keep in mind that it’s a slowly developing country so the roads are rough and bumpy. I can’t think of a thing I would avoid on my next trip. Had a fabulous time…
Caye Ambergris is a lovely, breezy island. San Pedro has numerous restaurants, bars and excursion companies. The barrier reef is relatively close with lots of diving and snorkeling outings available. The islands (Ambergris and Caulker) are fairly expensive for food and drinks. A variety of lodging options are available, which seemed reasonably priced to me.
San Pedro is worth going to by ferry (San Pedro Express Water Taxi) which takes two hours one way. I would recommend going to San Pedro rather than staying in Belize City because it has everything; all the blue water and great activities and tours.
San Pedro felt like a whole different world from Belize City, and Belize City was a whole different world then where I'm from (Phoenix, AZ, USA). I loved driving around town in the golf cart (golf cart rentals are a must). Many little places to eat. This includes touristy restaurants and small very local places. Locals are very nice and sweet.
You you will pretty much be driving exclusively on golf carts or mopads unless you prefer bicycles. The streets will be bumpy in most parts however, you can never get lost because everything circles back to the main road. Enjoy the people, the food and have a great time.
