Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsCan be a little far from some other cities worth visiting, but that’s okay
Suuuper cute building, rooms and garden. The beds were so comfy. The area is nice as well, a good place to settle a little after a day out in the busy city.

ItalyTowel and locker keys are not included in the fee, you'll need to rent it. In the room there are no safety box. If you are leaving early in the morning make sure the evening before that someone will be there to return the locker key (I needed to check around the place looking for someone). The bed is not ready, you'll need to make it by your own.
The place is cosy and the staff is welcoming.

New ZealandCurtains in my dormitory were not long enough for total privacy, but was in all female dorm so not really a problem.
Well equiped kitchen with free coffee - and a tranquil garden to drink it in. Location great - not far to metro and walkable distance to Senso ji, Ueno Park and Yanaka.

toco guesthouse is absolutely beautiful. it has a beautiful garden and the building itself is super unique. it's located 4 min walk from the train station, but I found the neighborhood around very interesting and preferd to walk or to cycle. the place is extremely clean and the staff is so kind. one of the best places I've been in at Japan.

United KingdomThis is a very minor thing but the slippers were very slippery! So be careful walking up and down stairs with them. They slid off my feet a couple of times.
The bunks had a good amount of room and they made sure there were plugs and lights for each bunk. The old building is very charming and the breakfast (paid separately for whichever days you want to partake) was delicious and traditional Japanese style, freshly made. Overall I felt very relaxed here and it was also nice to meet some fellow travelers.

AustraliaAs mentioned it is an old Japanese building so it can be noisy but it never bothered me when I was sleeping. Sometimes when the hostel was full you have to wait for the showers as there are only two, but not always.
Perfect location if you’re looking for a quiet stay in Tokyo, away from the hustle and bustle of the main area. Staff were always very friendly and the building is a beautiful charming old Japanese building. The rooms were always clean and there is a curfew in the common areas so even if there are lots of people around it’s usually quiet at night. Close to both subway and JR train lines, so easy to get about and not far from some tourist areas also (just 1 stop from Ueno and just 15 min by bike to Tokyo skytree and just 10 min by bike to Asakusa area).

Everything about it. From entering the front door when I left my huge luggage to explore to the end of my stay it has been a pleasant sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Service and facilities were warm and welcoming that made you feel like home. I stayed in the accomodation for its tranquility and it did not disappoint.

United KingdomWhen we initially arrived, the first staff member we met ignored us and then was a bit grumpy. But the staff member who checked us in and the staff who made our breakfast were lovely.
We loved this guesthouse. They have done an incredible job of keeping the beautiful old feel of the garden and external corridor, while also providing modern comforts. The showers and toilets were spacious. We didn't feel at all cramped. We loved the breakfast. 500 yen for miso soup and two homemade onigiri was a great deal!

CanadaAbsolutely horrendous wifi.
It’s close to both Uguisudani Station, which is 30 minute train away from Shibuya, and Iriya Subway station, which is a 20 minutes subway ride away from tsukiji market. This hostel is very clean and you have to take your shoes off before you go into the dorm rooms. The staff here is very enthusiastic. They love to teach me the Japanese culture and language. They give lots of travel tips also.

100 years old house with garden in the middle of Tokyo. Amazing! I loved the atmosphere, the staff are all so kind and helpful and you can meet nice locals at the bar. The rooms are very cozy. Bath, toilet, kitchen, rooms are cleaned every day. There's everything you need nearby, conbini, supermarket, bakery, ramen, soba, sushi, subway, train station.
