Cologne Cathedral
Started in 1248, this monster cathedral took over six centuries to complete – but unusually, later architects stuck to the original Gothic plans. You could say that it was worth the wait, though – Cologne Cathedral is now Germany’s most visited landmark, leaving Berlin and Munich in its dust.

Our first view of it was late at night as we exited Hbf, it towered over Domplatte and its black colouring helped it hide in the night. Very impressive! When going up the tower (accessed from outside the main building, via modern steps leading down towards toilets and car-park) note the Roman remains, they were an unexpected surprise.

From the outside, this cathedral looks magnificent.
From the outside, this cathedral looks magnificent. Unfortunately we were unable to walk around inside as two officials and a red rope prevented the public from gaining access. Not very tourist friendly!

The outstanding landmark of the city, which I first saw in 1954 as a member of D.J.H. (Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk). The building with its 500 foot spires remained splendin, and largely intact, while the surrounding area had been flattened.

If you want to go up the tower, do it early in your day; it's a long way up and you don't want to be tired before starting the climb. Also: there will be fewer people coming down the stairs and slowing you down.

Great hotel almost in front of Cologne Cathedral and within walking distance to two Christmas Market and train station. Staff is very nice. Room was very clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay.
This hotel has accommodating staff. The location is just next to the railway station and Cologne Cathedral.
The breakfast was good ( not great, though). One advantage is that the breakfast goes till 12.
There was an issue with the water drain malfunction. When we informed them, they immediately organized a team to fix it. We lost few hours in the morning and they compensated it by extending our checkout to 3 PM.
The location is the best asset of the hotel. It is near everything we look forward to as tourists: shopping center, fastfood, train station, hop on hop off stop, and the iconic Cologne cathedral. Even though there was some construction/digging going on just beside the hotel, this didn't bother us since the windows were sound proof. This is a highly recommended place to stay.
I absolutely loved the design, style, and the detail in the room and bathroom. The timber floors, the stony walls, the amazing huge and comfy bed, the porcelain cups, the L'Occitane cosmetics, and the window facing a historical part of the town hall- all this was wonderful and made my stay extremely pleasant. I also appreciated that the hotel was located only a short walking distance from the Cologne Cathedral and the main train station.
Excellent hotel in the direct view of Cologne Cathedral, very friendly multilanguage staff, smart and sleek interiors, incredibly comfortable beds and pillows, generous choice of refreshments, fitness center.
You can't beat the location. The hotel is very close to the Cologne Cathedral, the Central Station, the Xmas markets, museums, a good supermarket and shops. Augustine Restaurant is right next door (you have to reserve at least a couple days before). The staff was helpful. My room was small, but clean and comfortable, with a view of the spires of the Cathedral to boot.
The location is excellent. Just a short walk to the Christmas Markets, train station, and Cologne Cathedral. Apartment was located on a quiet street. I recommend this place.
Very good location and the room was cozy and clean. It was one of the best priced hotels in the area and it did not disappoint. Wifi worked fine and the reception person was kind and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. Within a short walk to the Cologne Cathedral which is amazing.
Excellent location, just 5 minutes walk from Cologne Cathedral, Ludwig Museum and Cologne Central Station. Very clean hotel and room. Very friendly staff.
The hotel was affordable and very close to the Train Station and sites like the Old City and the Cologne Cathedral. The staff was friendly and Accommodating and the room, while a bit old and worn, was very clean.

What Guests Said About Cologne Cathedral:

Cologne cathedral is stunning by its height, the carvings and sculptures that cover the whole building. Once inside, one is also impressed by its size and some of its windows. The reliquary of the three Magi is also kept there. It is unfortunate that the outside of such a world renowned cathedral has still not been clean and the building looms black over the town.
