The city divided in two different worlds, here begins the eastern Europe. From one side you have Slavic Poland, from other side you have Germany, very interesting to live between and to have a choice. Czech Republic is close as well and forms the mix between German and Slavic way of life and mentality. while everything was closed in Germany and CZ because of Corona rules, almost everything was open in Poland. 160 km from Prague, 160 km from Wroclaw, 220 km from Berlin, 100 km from Dresden. Nice place to escape the reality.

Zgorzelec has plenty of shops and History my stay was too short to visit the whole place but enjoyed my stay there and shopping experience next time I hope to have more time to explore the town centre. Stayed at the Hotel Zagroda Kolodzieja very nice hotel with delicious food and would recommend as it is a few minutes drive to the city centre from there.

Zgorzelec is really one side of Görlitz, but because the river that runs through Zgorzelec/Görlitz IS the official Polish/German border, they are sometimes thought of as 2 separate places. I loved the fact that this is a bilingual, bicultural place, with incredibly beautiful buildings and parks.

Only the very close vicinity to the German town of Görlitz makes the Polish town of Zgorzelec worth a stay. The Polish town (before 1945 it was the eastern part of Görlitz) has no really remarkable sights to visit except the impressive Memorial Hall with its glass copula from German times. However, the inside was closed but the park around is nice. In the town we bought postcards, ice creams and some snacks and found people generally friendly with only one exception. The restaurants along the Neisse River look good; we tried one with Polish food and it was good.
