We went off season which for us was perfect, I think in full season it would be rather "touristy", so if that's your bag then its a great location. Went to a number of restaurants and can say they were all excellent.

I went just as the off season begun and this was a perfect time for me. The Theo Star Beach Hotel is a great place to stay, close to everything though far enough away for a quiet relaxing stay.
The old town of Malia is a must and the food in restaurants like Milos, Avli and Zorbas is not only great value but some of the best food I had whilst island hopping from Crete to Rhodes to Kos.

We liked Malia a lot because you had so much things to do there. There was a lot of happening for younger people and for old people as well. Everyone was super nice and the prices in the restaurants were amazing. The only thing is that if you are there in July/August it could be a little to loud.

Its quite party place, but had a hotel a bit outside the city, so was very good! I would not recommend to plan Malia city as family holidays, but in our case (as we were staying a bit outside - Olympus Studious) that was great with small kid as well.
Very good food and amazing beach, clean and safe sea.
Recommend!

Malia is the perfect trip for anyone.
Malia is the perfect trip for anyone. You can get anything you want, from going out at the clubs to a peaceful relaxing vacation with your family. Next to this you can rent transportation on every corner on the street, have various dining possibilities (Mexican streetfood, Italian, Greek...). You can also visit other places in Crete using the very cheap public transportation system.

Tacky and cheap. Crowded drunks. Over priced.
Tacky and cheap. Crowded drunks. Over priced. I didn't find it relaxing at all but then I realised I was in a party area should of researched it more. Just a typical tourist spot nothing traditional
It was my first time in Malia and I didn’t know what to expect but Socrates Hotel exceeded my expectations . The stuff was lovely especially the receptionist, Klaudia . She would answer any of our questions, she always had a smile on her face , she would recommend us traditional shops and restaurants and she would help us live the whole experience of Malia .Our room was clean , the beds comfortable and the breakfast good . The you so much Socrates Hotel for exceptional hospitality x
Villa Monte Mare is a lovely place surrounded by a beautiful garden. I really enjoyed swimming in the pool and looking at the rocks and moutains above the hotel. There is also a nice view on the sea from balconies. I appreciate that it is quiet place in contrast to the noisy center of Malia.
All the staff, especially Elektra and a British lady at the bar, are very nice and helpful. Their breakfasts and dinners are fresh and tasty, they also have very good wines.
Excellent hotel in a strategic location close to the bus stop and the centre of Malia with restaurants and supermarket. The room is spacious, cosy and clean with a comfortable bed, balcony and kitchenette. I stayed at the hotel for a week and extended my stay for another fortnight because I liked everything so much. Many thanks to Katerina for her active help and quick response to all my requests. Everything was perfect!
A very hospitable family owned hotel close to beach and downtown in Crete. The hosts go out of the way to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Enjoyed the sightseeing and food in Crete. The hotel inside is very new and rooms are super clean and well maintained. There was an electric stove in our room which came in handy for small cooking as well.
The BEST hotel in Malia. Icandy is exceptionally comfortable and clean with huge rooms that are great for both couples and groups of friends. Also a great pool and bar area & really good food and drinks that are great value too. Georgia the host will look after you from the moment you get there & make your stay extra special. Would definitely recommend
The staff is by far the best part of our stay here, even made some friends among them. Rooms were big, clean and comfortable. A great variety of food and drinks, there is something for everybody. The outdoor pool was also a fantastic way to relax or have fun. Also we had a blast playing billiard and air-hockey with the other guests of the hotel.
Not far from the airport, the hotel was great, a few steps to the amazing sandy beach, ideal for kids. I think it is one of the best beaches, not only in Malia. Restaurant with very tasty local cuisine. No russians, every day room cleaning, beach towels, and free sunbeds made our vacation more comfortable. We are recommended this hotel.
The hotel staff were nice, breakfasts were great. Hotel is clean and safe with private place for parking car. This place is relatively close to supermarket and old Malia with cute restaurants. When you are travelling by car, this place is close to Knossos and Heraklion on one side and small sandy beaches on the other side.
Very welcoming hosts. We traveled with our turtle in small aquarium. The owner made sure that we had everything we needed in the room in order to keep our pet happy. The hotel is nicely located, in quiet area of Malia. Room was very specious, beds super comfortable. Pool and pool area are very well maintained.
Very friendly staff - the night security guard was excellent conversation in particular! We always felt welcome home. Beautiful pool area, large rooms and excellent position very close to the old town and some of the very best tavernas in Crete.
The excellent hotel with super competitive price ! The room has a small kitchen and balcony, and in the court there are two pools.
The location is in the center of Malia, you see a lot of restaurants and supermarkets.
The pool, the pool bar and the beach area are excellent. Our room on the groundfloor was facing the pool area which allowed us easy access to the pool from our terrace. The hotel family owners are very helpful.
Very nice central hotel next to the beach and the town of Malia.
Very well maintained and clean hotel with tasty food and friendly staff .
Will definitely recommend and visit again in the future.
Perfect place for stay in Malia, we were with baby, it was so comfy. Nice beach near hotel, nice restaurants near. The owners family are very friendly and hospitable.
