I cannot rate this place highly enough. I got there at 10am and knew my room would not be ready. Rafi took my bag , took me to the car park and when I told him I had travelled through the night and would need to sleep in the afternoon, he changed my room to the quietest part of the hotel so I would not be disturbed. Breakfast was continental but had everything from freshly made toast to hams cheeses eggs and pastries plus freshly squeezed orange juice and delicious coffee. A wonderful start to my Camino journey. I hope to return

This is a beautiful little medieval town with cobbled streets and impressive ancient buildings. A central feature is the large cathedral of Colegiata of St. Juliana, where you can visit the cloisters or attend Catholic mass. It stands in a square which is bordered by an art museum (Jesus Otero). A few cobbled streets run off the square, with plenty of restaurants and hotels to choose from. They are proud of their cheese and other local produce, so there are several shops dedicated to this. The Conventa Clarisas (convent of the poor Clares) is also very charming and is famous for its pastries for sale. We stayed in the beautiful Hotel Casa del Marques, whose staff were very friendly and welcoming, in a well-appointed and spacious room with large comfortable bed, seating areas and ensuite, all in keeping with the charming classic style of the hotel. We also spent a night at the Hotel los Infantes, which is impressively grand. It is easy to access this small town on foot, but it is possible to drive through the cobbled streets and there is a public car park which is free. The town is not actually on the coast, but is 10 minutes' drive from pretty local beaches.

This is a must-see, very beautiful town.
This is a must-see, very beautiful town. It is close to the Altamira Caves, although we decided not to visit them. We ate in a little restaurant at the square and the food was incredible and very cheap. We got to Santillana del Mar by car and it was easy to find, parking is available and overnight parking was free.

Santillana del Mar is a well preserved historic town in beautiful setting. Lovely to walk the cobbled streets and soak in the ambiance of the old town. The Catholic Church was really interesting as was local museum- downside was no English signage in either.
Barely 2km from town is the astounding Cave of Altamira and museum. They have protected these prehistoric caves by building a museum containing an accurate replica of the caves and artwork. That alongside a fascinating exhibition of the era concerned made for a compelling visit. In high season, best to get there early as there are limited numbers going through the museum. Lovely walking through area and viewing (from distance) original cave entrance. Beautifully maintained and very helpful staff. Information in Spanish & English.
Multitude of cafe/restaurants in old town with great food

This place is unique, as are each of the houses / places to stay - so much character! The church of Santa Juliana is a gem, and the 12th century cloister is amazing. The village is a lovely blend of culture and country - incredible architecture and free-range chickens / horses. Altogether delightful!

Santillana del Mar is a beautiful village with some lovely buildings but is leaning towards being overly touristy and much of what was on sale was repetitive and not great quality.
However, it has a superb ceramics shop - if you are interested in lovely pieces then do visit ARPA.Also a lovely little leather goods sho[ and a couple of decent jewellers .

This is a wonderful rural property overlooking the beautiful town of Santillana del Mar. It was a short drive or walk into town and a reasonable drive to the Picos de Europa.
We were a group of 5 and found the house had everything we needed and had comfortable beds. It is peaceful, scenic and charming. We would definitely stay again.
The owner met us to let us in. Although language was a difficulty he was welcoming and managed to explain all we needed to know. Thank you, Jesus, for a very enjoyable stay.
We liked everything in this very nice hotel: warm welcome, hotel close to the historic centre, calm, clean, comfortable, full of character, with a super breakfast but , most of all, a staff who gave us lots of interesting advice to visit the city and the surroundings, to find a nice place to eat, to explain the route and points of interest in the Picos of Europa. We can only recommend this great place. Thank you for everything.
This is a gem of a property, our host Martina shows how these places can be run efficiently, breakfast is basic but excellent and enough for us . Martina speaks English and has good advice as to the local area which is the reason we were there, Santillana del Mar is only 15 minutes walk and is a stunning medieval town, many restaurants and bars although not all open when tourist season is coming to a close.
I liked almost everything. The hotel is elegant, as if belonging to a village nobleman. Very charming rooms full of antique furniture and beautiful paintings. Comfortable rooms. Good service. Great food. The breakfast buffet is top.
extremely helpful staff; beautiful hotel; comfortable beds; a tub and shower!!!!; lots of places to sit, read and write; private Juliet balcony in room. Hotel
provided a free tour of town and the and the guide Luis was excellent.
Great location just a 5 minute walk to Santillana and 1 km from the Altamira Museum.
The hotel staff were wonderful and the restaurant was very popular although we didn’t eat there.
The rooms were small but nicely appointed
Beautiful room on a lovely rural area, peace and quiet just a few steps from Santillana del Mar. Liliana (the manager) is super friendly and accommodating to every need. Breakfast is great. 100% recommended
This is a great location for visiting Santillana Del Mar and is within easy walking distance from the town with car parking facilities and a great outside seating area. Friendly and welcoming at reception.
Lovely, quiet hotel within walking distance to the old town. Very friendly and helpful staff. Has a tree house with cozy wicker loveseats. Perfect spot for reading or a nap!
Fantastic location, helpful and welcoming staff, comfortable room, generous breakfast. Offers a home-like atmosphere but with the professionalism of a well-run hotel.
