The guest house was a wonderful gem in the middle of Rantepao, conveniently located near all the Tana Toraja points of interest. I had a traditional Torajan home all to myself and it felt so special. The place was extremely clean, had all I needed. It is part of a typical Torajan family's compound. Aldi, the host went out of his way to help and assist me with everything. He even waited for us until late at night (and I felt horrible about it, because it was like 1.30 AM when I arrived), as I was driving from Makasar and arrived later than expected. He organized a 2 day tour with Mr. Ino (also recommended), who showed me around the main sights at VERY reasonable cost. The place was spotless, comfortable, and felt like I was in a documentary. Absolutely recommended. As for Tana Toraja.... it is a unique corner of our world. Make sure you spend at least 2 days there to see everything. Ask for Ino's services.

We had a full traditional tonkonan all for ourselves. Very spacious and super clean and very well decorated. The surrounding garden is very well maintained. The view on the lumbung is something special. Breakfast was a delicious nasi goreng. Hot water and great water pressure in the very spacious and clean toilet. The real gem of this place is the super welcoming and helpful owners. They went above and beyond any expectations to help us. They pick us up from Rantepao at 6am, gave us breakfast while waiting for the room to be available. Helped us with an issue on our SIM card and they also gave us super precious information on how to explore Toraja their traditions, especially on the Rambu solo. Be aware that this is a rural area and reception can be very poor both on your phone and on the WiFi.

There is no coincidence in Tevana being the best ranked accommodation in Bira. We have fully enjoyed our stay here and would be happy to return some day. <3

We were in another world, where beauty, kindness and serenity prevailed - what we imagine paradise must be. The accommodation: Willanda Lande’s century-old Toraja style houses for the guests were nestled between the steep wooden hill and the torrent in a garden teeming with local and many-colored plants cared for by the mother of our host. Our Toraja bungalow had all the most recent facilities: a vast and comfortable bed, plus two more sleeping arrangements on the top floor, a shower room, tea and coffee …. and perfect calm amid the songs of the birds and the flutter of butterflies. The food: we were welcomed each day with freshly pressed delicious fruit juice from local exotic fruit served by Willanda, the smiling host. As we required, for every meal, he selected the best restaurants serving local food for a most reasonable prices. Those were new flavours for the delight of our palates. The service, the guide: Villanda Lande is originally a local minority Sulawesian, with two BAs from Djakarta, one of which was in English. He had the great advantage of being totally bilingual - a rarity in Indonesia. So, we could hold with him long conversations about the geography, the history and the extraordinary culture of his big equatorial island. We had a remarkable combination of modernity and century-old preserved traditions, a festival of ancient traditions with a colonial layer of christianity. He could answer competently all our questions - something unique in Southeast Asia. Besides, he took us to all the places we selected after discussions from his suggestions.

The area has only recently been opened up and is accessible only by boat. If you are seasoned travelers it is good and we, a couple in our mid seventies, coped well. The family we stayed with cooked a splendid evening meal which was served in their personal over water pagoda and provided a boat tour of the area.
