A foodie heaven, affluent Modena is also a petrolhead paradise, as Italy’s most prestigious supercars are crafted in and around the city. The three-pronged Maserati logo proudly marks their Modena headquarters, while a museum in Cittanova to the west houses vintage vehicles.
Lamborghini produce their distinctive V8s in Sant’Agata Bolognese, while the most famous of them all – Ferrari – has turned the nearby town of Maranello red. The church bells even ring every time their F1 team wins!
Enzo Ferrari’s former home is now a Modena museum, while a theatre is named after another famous resident: Luciano Pavarotti. The most famous export is balsamic vinegar and Villa San Donnino offers wonderful tastings, and local tortellini and lambrusco are served up in pavement cafes and bars.
UNESCO World Heritage-listed Piazza Grande is a cobbled square part-lined with the porticoed town hall. Opposite is the 12th-century, white-marble cathedral which is overlooked by the Ghirlandina belltower.
A few streets away, stately Palazzo Ducale is home to the Italian Military Academy, but was once inhabited by the powerful Este family after they fled Ferrara. Some of their Italian art collection is displayed in the Museum Palace, alongside archaeological collections. Nearby Modena accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels and cheap guest houses by the train station.

Cozy feel in the Center—cobblestones, porticos, Mercato Albinelli, Enzo Ferrari Museum, incredible food, particularly Uva d’Oro restaurant (went to dinner there twice as it was so enjoyable) and Sant’Agostino three times for late afternoon aperitivi.

This was a really lovely city with an extensive pedestrian town centre. The Duomo is a highlight, the covered market is charming (it re-opens in the evening with a variety of what seem like pop-up restaurants) and the very grand town hall was worth a visit. You are spoilt for choice for restaurants - we liked Stallo Pomodoro and Da Danilo for dinner- both had outside terraces, and for lunch, Aldina, a very traditional no frills trattoria on the first floor near the market. Blums, a prize-winning gelateria, served the best ice cream I had on this trip.

Really a treat, Modena deserves to be better known.
Really a treat, Modena deserves to be better known. A beautiful and walkable city, with magnificent food, good and variegated shops, and did I mention the magnificent food? The Galleria Estense is an excellent museum (with all information in Italian and English). Opening hours for churches are a bit intransparent (and not always kept), but the city is definitely worth a trip!

A beautiful town not overrun by tourists or tourism, with good restaurants, lovely sites, and extremely well kept buildings. It is easily walkable (no tourist cars in the center). If there was something to avoid, I could not find it.
San Gamenino is a great option if you need a place to rest, sleep and breakfast in a clean, quiet location and get a chance to explore the beautiful town of Modena.
Although the hotel and its furnishings (tiles, furniture) are getting a little elderly, the basics have been refreshed (new paint on the walls, new, clean curtains) and it is perfectly adequate for the moderate price charged.
Breakfast is a definite plus: it is wholesome, complete and beautifullly presented! (eggs, ham, cheese, cereals, cakes, bread, butter, jam, yoghurts...)
Lucia was very helpful and told me names of all the restaurants I should go to in Modena. Unfortunately I left my cheese and Jamon which I had just bought from the market and kept it in your fridge. We both forgot so I sent her a message that she should eat it and. enjoy and that its a gift from me. She and the girl in the morning were very good and I will definitely recommend your lovely hotel to many others and will also come back as I really enjoyed Modena, albeit for a short while.
Amazing B&B
Paolo is a super host and made sure to assist in everything we needed
Sent us events in the area and assisted with dinner reservation
The rooms are very big and very clean with a great fresh smell
Breakfast was amazing with home made cakes
Eveything was fresh prepared
Private parking and easy access to Modena and to all the car museums in the area
We will come back if we will be be again in the area
Highly recommended !
Thank you Paolo for an amazing stay
Good hotel car park, easy to find and far enough out of Modena not to be overloaded with traffic. Hotel in a side street so very quiet. Easy to drive off around the area from the hotel and for Modena city centre there is a bus stop less than 2 mins from the hotel, which cost 2 euros and you can use contactless. Many restaurants nearby but the food can be quite similar with little variation. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The host was waiting for us when we arrived. He kindly explained to us what we needed to know to make our stay as comfortable as possible, including tips about where to park the car, where to eat, what to visit... The apartment simply had everything we needed and more, very well maintained, clean, spacious, and located in the center of Modena. Possibly the best apartment I've ever been to in Italy.
I loved absolutely everything about this place, especially the staff, Giacomo was our favourite and most helpful. Not only did the entire hotel reception staff help us find a covid test centre so we can continue our travels but they were the most kind and welcoming staff ever met. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Modena as it is also very close to the centre.
This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in and I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels! The facilities were all fine but what made it exceptional was how helpful and friendly the staff were - everyone was pitch perfect. The hotel was clean, relaxed, friendly and informal. It’s in an ideal location for Modena, food tours and Bologna airport. I hope to return.
Modern, v comfortable. Excellent and spacious rooms, super walk in shower. Staff v friendly and helpful, particularly in the restaurants. Great breakfast and enjoyed a good dinner there. Free parking and loading bay. Distance to Modena not a problem but beeare the ZTL zones in the okd centre. Can v much recommend the hotel.
Amazing boutique hotel. really friendly staff who have excellent recommendations on how to spend your day and where to eat. I even asked them to get arrange a cake for my wife's birthday and Valeria was super nice about it and arranged the whole thing. would keep coming back to stay here. location was also awesome
Exceptionally nice hotel in scenic setting. Room was large (could have brought the kids), service impeccable, location quiet but still not too far from Modena town centre (beware of the ZTL). Lovely to enjoy an aperitivo in front of the house, and the breakfast was excellent. Great value for money.
This was our third visit to this beautiful Hotel, it will always have a special place in our hearts as I proposed to my now wife in the beautiful gardens of the Hotel. Very friendly Team and fantastic breakfast. Great position to walk around in the city and good parking as well.
No breakfast but cafe downstairs. Room only, no hotel facilities, fair enough at the price. Recommend arriving in daylight as a little difficult to find and then to navigate the stairways etc. Easy parking on street. Room excellent, good wifi. Right beside the Ferrari museums.
This apartment had a great location for walking around Modena and was also close to free parking. Breakfast arrived on time every morning and the host was really responsive to all questions and adjustments. It was also super clean and the kitchen had everything you need.
Well situated for our stop over on a road trip to Greece, this hotel is a gem, clean, comfortable, gorgeous room and facilities.
Close to the centre of Modena, which we didn’t have time to explore and easy access to the autostrada.
We choose this B&B because the close distance to both Modena as Maranello as we were visiting the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums.
The owner was very nice and helpfull.
Very clean room.
Comfiest bed ever in a B&B or hotel.
Felt like home on our days in Modena. Comfortable and spacious. Across the street from the our favourite market in all of Italy and the centre of Modena. We loved it!!
Sergio was very friendly and prompt in responding to our messages
He went above and beyond making sure everything was good
The breakfast was the best we had in Italy!
