The old town and harbour area are both beautiful and very interesting. There are lots of tiny streets with unusual different shops, museums and plenty of Minoan relics, all easy to see. Also some excellent tavernas and coffee shops.

I was in Chania for 4 days and it wasn’t enough for me.
I was in Chania for 4 days and it wasn’t enough for me. I’d recommend At least 5. The medieval town is breathtaking, you can walk through time travel on cobblestone streets that narrow and get a half liter of wine for 5 euros each and have dinner made my locals family for 5 euro. I ate a gourmet dinner on the boardwalk with a carafe of wine dinner for 2 only 65 euros and it was the most amazing food I have ate in my life. I highly recommend.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

Stunning place, wonderful people and delicious food. Nea Chora beach is fantastic and there are many restaurants and cafés to choose from. I love to go before and after the high season. Easy to rent a car and drive around, the driving experience was fantastic, good roads and signals. People drive sensibly and there is free parking all over the island with no tolls at all.

The old town is lovely full of independent stores selling leather goods, clothes etc. Eat at one of the restaurants overlooking the port and lighthouse for fantastic views. We loved the Venetian port and the Old Town. One of our favourite places was a restaurant called Paradisiaco in the upper part of the port on Theotokopoulou Street. Its a quiet, mountainside/seaside town with amazing food. I dont think I had one bad meal there. The beaches are amazing and the water is a crystal clear green/blue. I'm sure there are lots of activities and things to do involving hiking and snorkeling. If you're looking for lots of shopping from big retail, I dont think this is the place for you. We rented a car and were a bit worried about parking, but we always managed to find a spot on the block. The aesthetic was very crisp and clean and had very modern fixtures. The balcony was also a lovely spot to have a Mythos in the evening. Very close to a 24hr mini market, other amenities, and lots of local eateries! It was a wonderful home base to explore Western Crete from.

Its a nice touch to have the table outside the front door so you can sit with a drink and do some people watching :) MUST visit the Maritime Museum of Crete which is 2min away. I have never seen so many ship models in one place, exciting find. Restaurant tip: TAMAM - we ate there 3 times - very nice food.
