Stornaway is a pleasant port town with a laid back feel and some industrial areas and parts that could do with a spruce up.
The towns got plenty of supermarkets & independents too as well as plenty of restaurants & takeaways.
Travelling around Lewis & Harris is best done by car, but it is possible to use the buses to visit lots of places too. Just double check your times with the drivers.
The beaches are stunning!

Small historic town, that is the ideal for travelling to Harris. There are a few historic sites to see but some of them were not open when we visited. Sunday very quiet with nothing open or available to do. Great place to go for a relaxing retreat.

The shops in Stornoway were super with a good range of things to choose from. We visited the butcher, the charity shops, the deli, the new Co-op supermarket, tweed shops, Tourist Information and Taigh Ceilidh where we received a very warm welcome.

the hotel is fine the staff are good prices a bit high but that is standard for the island. my only problem is a slight health issue and with the very steep stairs and the rooms all upstairs i found this a problem but the hotel is ok.

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle).
Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle). The shopping is poor and it's very difficult to eat out on a Sunday or Monday. Most restaurants are closed! SO BOOK if you can !( We don't think they want to encourage tourists!) Do go to the Black House village and the standing stones. Really interesting. We were looking for wildlife but it was minimal. We were only there 2 full days but wished we were back on Uist!!
The receptionist was really friendly and let us leave our bags at the hotel and check in a bit early. The bedroom was nicer than we expected from the outside of the building. The shower was great and all the bathroom supplies - towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower caps - were nice. Everything was very clean. The room wasn't huge but had two windows, one looking out to the harbour. We didn't have a cooked breakfast but there was a good selection of fruit & cereals. Nice that they offer breakfast from 5.30 for early ferries etc.
A lovely cosy cottage, warm and welcoming with lovely extras such as fruit, homemade biscuits, milk in the fridge and chocolates by the beds. Angus and his family were perfect hosts as well as their two delightful labradors. Ample supply of logs and coal helped to add warmth inside whilst the wind howled and the rain fell outside! Easy access to Stornoway as well as a great base to explore the island as well as visit my friend’s brother in Stornoway. Thank you for a wonderful week and we will definitely return.
We stayed in this darling ground floor apartment for 4 nights.
It was a very clean and modern cozy unit.
The owner was responsive and friendly offering tips to for our stay in Stornoway.
We took advantage of her lovely hospitality basket of goodies.
It is a quiet neighbourhood conveniently located to the city centre. We felt safe walking down to the hotel for a lovely dinner.
What a lovely find for us.
Very clean, comfortable and well organized. Olive was very thoughtful and exceeded all our expectations for our stay. Lovely breakfast and great welcome, including drinks and biscuits in our room. Well positioned, close to all the amenities in Stornoway, including places of interest such as the castle, as well as bars, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets.
Nice hotel overall with outstanding staff. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Nice facilities for meals and a solid breakfast included, and can book a nice roast dinner if you choose. Great care taken for COVID protection as well. Located on a main road, very close to the center of Stornoway.
The breakfast was excellent, and the hospitality was warm and generous (lovely homemade scones and jam). It was great to have a comfortable guest lounge with small fridge and a range of books. Everywhere I needed to get to in Stornoway was within 5-10 minutes walk. And the weather was amazing!
Lovely hotel staff exceptional nothing too much trouble Central location Both restaurants within the hotel were the best on the island I would definitely stay here Beds very comfortable had a great nights sleep Loved the complimentary hot chocolate sachets
We were warmly welcomed by the owner with a sparkling clean and tidy room. The continental breakfast items were ample and perfect for us. We really enjoyed our stay at this location as it is a 15 minute walk to the centre of Stornoway. Just great!
Beautiful location looking out over the ocean. Facilities and room were spacious and modern compared to other hotels we stayed in. Tom, the owner, was very friendly, attentive and accommodating. I would highly recommend people to stay here.
House is lovely and has everything we needed. It was clean and is in a great location for centre of Stornoway.
We loved the Lewis & Harris related decor around the house too and the gift basket left by the owners was a lovely touch.
After booking into a previous guest house which we walked out of we didn’t have much choice with where we could stay. There were only 2 places and we picked your hotel. Good choice 😊
Nice touch with the cerals and coffee. Very
Central location and plenty parking. Information was supplied on what we could do in Stornoway on a Sunday which was very appreciated.
Perfectly located to explore Stornoway on foot and the rest of the island with the car. Our host was extremely nice and helped us reunite with a kids toy we had left behind!
Great location and equipped with everything you need for a stay in Stornoway. We used it as a base to explore the Isle of Lewis and it worked out great for us.
Firstly we didn’t stay at this hotel! You should already know this as we walked out!!! The dates you have at the top of the survey are the wrong dates!!!!!!
