It is located in the middle in a beautiful village.
Everything was very newly done with thick carpets and fantastic quality carpentry everywhere. Food was delicious and staff very friendly and helpful
There appeared to be Mouse Man stools by the bed - I felt a bit wrong putting my cup of tea on it!

Everything was absolutely perfect. Originally booked for 1 night but booked another, location is lovely had a beautiful walk on the foot path up the road seeing the sun go down and saw some deers and ducks. Also a 15 minute walk to Dedham town what we did also and was worth it as we went for a walk by the river and was greeted by some cows. The spa is my favourite was so relaxing lovely heated pool to the right temperature just get straight in and go for a nice swim, the jacuzzi is great too, I nearly fell asleep. Now the hotel and room itself is beautiful as we walked in was greeted and shown to our room, we stayed in Tennyson and it was breathtaking, very big space, big shower room which I loved and to top it off we had our own terrance balcony which was very spacious. The staff was lovely, made us feel comfortable and welcome and was there if anything was needed. I’d definitely be back. If you’re looking for a quiet relaxing break then I’d definitely consider the Toolbooth spa and hotel. They have restaurants that can do room service or they will take you down to the restaurant. We got breakfast to the room, tasty I’d recommend the yoghurt and blackberry pancakes.

A quaint old world hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.
Very creaky floors. Comfortable bed and a warm spacious room.
. The clothes rail in the wardrobe of my room was too high for me to hang my clothes up. I had to lay them across the armchair. I would have preferred a slide rail in the shower as I do not like the overhead downpour

Very busy quaint hotel set beside a river, staff were always friendly and happy to help, it’s a great little hotel to stay for a few days sightseeing. Maybe rooms are on the small side but otherwise a very pleasant stay.

The hotel itself is exceptional.
The hotel itself is exceptional. And it's a ten minute stroll along the estuary to Manningtree. I had lunch at Lucca which seems to be also owned by Mistley Thorn. Again a high standard of food, wine and attentive service. I also visited the North House Gallery in Manningtree which officially opens only on Saturdays but I was able to arrange an appointment on Friday by texting the owner. Well worth a visit. Excellent exhibition called "Shore' with six different artists.
Mistley on the main road is pretty unsightly right now, with high fencing erected on the road edge by the estuary.

What a heavenly Oasis, the Mistley Thorn is and has all the ingredients for a break from the weekly hubbub. We stayed in the suite, if this is available it’s a winner, immaculate, choice of bathroom, one with bath and the other shower. Whilst it did have a sloping ceiling one side, I felt that this did nothing but enhance the charm. Some previous reviews mentioned the noise, we experienced the total opposite, it was tranquil….well except for the geese in the morning.
We dined in the restaurant on Saturday evening, great vibe and fully booked (so booking is recommended) and whilst the menu is predominantly fish (surely to be expected), there were several other options available. I can thoroughly recommend, Oysters, pea croquettes and the fish bowl. My partner had the tapenade, king prawns, and the Sea Bass, all immaculately presented and delicious. The restaurant was a superb experience, the service was excellent, all staff knowledgeable about the offering and their suggestions were well received especially the Chocolate and Hazelnut desert. Breakfast again was delightful, a good variety, accompanied by good coffee. Overall this was a delightful stay and thoroughly recommend to all
