Located on the banks of the Fulda River in Germany’s Hessen region, Kassel was re-built after World War II where most of the city’s architectural history was destroyed. Although alot was destroyed, Kassel still features many prominent landmarks such as Königsplatz Kassel, which is a public square, the astronomy and physical cabinet of Orangerie and the splendid Town Hall Kassel.
Separating the city from the surrounding Hawk Forest is the stunning Wilhelmshöhe Palace and its adjoining Wilhelmshoehe Bergpark which features picturesque gardens, museums and the Ball House at the Wilhelmshoehe Palace.
Kassel has a variety of dining and entertainment options from the traditional Brauhaus to local and international restaurants, to appealing bars and cafés in the vicinity of Königsplatz Kassel.
The must-see museums of the city are the 18th-century Kunsthalle Fridericianum, the oldest public museum in Europe, and the famous fairy-tale Museum Brothers Grimm, who once called Kassel home.
Booking.com offers a variety of accommodation options in Kassel and across the Hessen region. Kassel Central Station offers direct routes to cities such as Frankfurt, Warburg and Eichenberg.

The Weihnachsmarkt had a very nice atmosphere with good food and drinks. The city center has all the usual shops. Grimmwelt is a very extensive museum with a nice (but expensive) restaurant.
The annoying thing about Kassel is that they close a lot of things during certain periods of time. This is the second time we went and the planetarium was closed on both occasions (March and December). The Marmorbad was also closed. In March a few of the museums were closed.
If you want to go for a swim we recommend the Auebad. Mind, though, that the slides close in the evening (Kassel tradition, I guess?).

City itself is not so remarkable, but the downtown area and the Christmas market are nice. We stopped briefly at the Grimm World Museum but didn't have time to go through it. We found some good restaurants.

I've been to Kassel three times, each time for Documenta.
I've been to Kassel three times, each time for Documenta. I love the city, though it's hard to put into words exactly why. It has a great mix of the modern and the old (though mostly modern, because of its being unfortunately bombed during WWII), and lots of greenery (parks etc). Great public transportation. Lots of cultural stuff going on.
On the other hand, I think they should improve their bicycle lanes: they're often mixed use on the sidewalk, but it's not always clear where (or if) the bicycles should be riding.

Big disappointment for us, the centre of the city is ugly and extremely dirty, I will never go there again.
The only thing which seems to be nice here is the Mountain Park Wihelmshöhe which is really beautiful!
This was our first visit to Kassel and Hotel Gude was suggested as a place to stay as it was near to the location of a family wedding which we were attending.
We loved everything about the hotel: the staff were very helpful and accommodating; for example providing us with a kettle to use in our room and enabling us to store our luggage on a night we spent away from the hotel; the room was large and comfortable and the breakfast buffet was superb.
If we visit Kassel again we will definitely stay at this hotel.
I don´t know where i starting :) . Motel was beautiful.Room was so pretty and bed was comfy. Hot summer day, they was also AC in room!. Bathroom was so nice and we really love it stay with us dog in this motel. Timberjack restaurant was just next to motel.Big parking lot. Restaurant food was delicious. We eat in dinner and Breakfast. So pretty restaurant, what we don´t see before in Germany. Best food ever what iam eating in Germany!!!Thank you so much!I love it Hardcore Carnivore style :)
The hotel is tucked away in a peaceful corner of Kassel, with lots of windows that can allow fresh air to flow in. The breakfast was two full rows of food and I was surprised when even more selections were offered up for free! The hotel is a fun little 15-minute walk downhill to the train station but then there are sometimes a few taxi parked out front (taxi fare to the station from the hotel was just seven euro in the year 2022).
I stayed at this hotel with my colleague for a couple of days because of work. Great location.Very nice, quit and modern room with king size bed and good quality pillows and matresses.
On the evenings we could sit in the breakfast room and have a good bier.
The staff is very kind and helpful.
Thank you to the albanian recepsionist for helping us with every question and issue during the stay.
They also have a very good breakfast.
It was a boutique hotel right near the castle. We loved walking in the extensive parklands and visiting the excellent museum. We would have like to have stayed longer to see the waterworks and fountains. We should have allowed more time for Kassel. The hotel was very clean and had an excellent breakfast. There was a small shopping centre across the street. The staff was very friendly. It was good value.
Room was very clean. WiFi was very good. They provided bottled drinking water, which not many hotels in Germany do.
It may not be near the Wilhelmhöhe station that you should go to but tramways come often and the stop is not far from the hotel. Failed to try the very good value-for-money breakfast guests have been raving about because we had to leave earlier than when the breakfast starts.
The apartment is placed really in the city center.
The apartment is modern, with terrace and a lot of things to prepare your meal.
We felt comfortable and the apartment gives you a very comfy and good feeling.
The bathroom and the kitchen are very spacious.
I recommend it.
The price is also attractive.
There is no more central place in Kassel, other than a tent on the tram station :-) A nice view over the city, very close to all the tourist attractions. The Hotel is brand new, very clean, fully automated (no keys are needed - all doors can be opened through a webpage/app).
This hotel does its job. We were a group of 8 people staying 2 nights because we were attending an event at Messe Kassel. We booked a cosy semi-private seating area for our meals. The service was outstanding. The staff really went the extra mile for us.
Lovely interior, comfortable bed, I slept like a baby. Beautiful bathroom, one of the nicest I ever saw in Germany. Good wifi. Spotless clean. And is next to a great restaurant . Quiet, yet not so far from motorway. Excellent choice.
The scenary around the hotel takes my breath away every time. You won't find a more thought out breakfast anywhere in Kassel. A belgian waffle maker, cereals, seemingly endless eggs and perfectly cooked bacon. The list goes on!
Excellent hotel into the side of forest. Walking distance to Hercules,Lowenburg castle, and Wilhelmshohe palace, for someone who likes hikking. Room was clean and really cosy. Safe parking available.
Spacious room. Anna at the front desk was very prompt to answer questions and explained everything well. Hotel is close to lots of good restaurants and cafes. Walking distance to interesting sights.
The hotel is situated near the city centre, so I could reach everything on foot. Check in and out were easy, there is a parking lot and a snack automat in the lobby. All in all everything was okay.
Very adorable hotel in a quiet part of Kassel. Very close to the castle. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was immaculate. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
It's in a quiet area - even with windows open there wasn't noise outside. There's a large parking lot with plenty of room for hotel guests. Beds were comfortable. The air conditioning worked well.
