Picture-postcard Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t fancy walking, a funicular railway goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful gardens to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!
At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are pavement cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.
A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.
Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its twin city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).
The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodation on Booking.com

I recommend taking a stroll along the Philosophers' Walk, visiting Heidelberg Castle, sampling the delightful treats at "Zeit für Brot" café, and taking trips to the numerous towns surrounding Heidelberg, such as Ladenburg, Speyer, Neckargemünd, and others.

Heidelberg is a beautiful City.
Heidelberg is a beautiful City. You can't visit and have a bad time if you enjoy culture and exploration!
Choosing the right accommodation for you always helps of course but the City itself is enough to lift anyone's spirits.
Of course the castle on the hill was beautiful as you would expect. I knew it would look amazing up there before we went, and still wasn't prepared for how magnificent it was. The views from the castle were so scenic, I facetimed home to show them, which you were able to do up a mountain because there was 5G connection everywhere.
It is one of those places where if you do it right, you get to know the culture and understand it very quickly and immerse yourself in it.
Would highly recommend visiting at Christmas time.

A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must.
A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must. You can walk up a rather steep cobbled road, or get the funicular railway. Pay into the castle, or walk the grounds for free. The castle is derelict and uninhabited but the majority of the structure still stands. The view from the garden terrace in the grounds looking down the Rhine and over the old town is fabulous. There are plenty of opportunities to walk alongside the river either side of the old bridge. Lots of places to eat from snack bars and bakeries to restaurants and bars. A 2 day visit was ample for us
The location at Konig Stuhl was spectacular, I stayed on the third floor and had an amazing view of Heidelberg from the overlook. The room was clean and pretty, with a bar, stocked minifridge, and free wifi. Buffet breakfast was provided downstairs, also with a view and the staff was attentive. The hotel has parking available and is also a short drive or hike to Schloss Heidelberg. I had an easy time checking in and out and the staff was pleasant and made my stay exceptional. Thank you!
Very comfortable hotel in the Old City of Heidelberg. Shopping, restaurants and sightseeing are all at walking distance. The room is very clean, and the bed is comfortable. Staff is helpful, making sure check-in and out is smooth. No private parking available, but that is to be expected in the Old City. Heidelberg has an absolutely beautiful old city, and for sight-seeing it is very much advisable to have a hotel here.
Excellent location in Heidelberg. Friendly staff who were able to provide recommendations and assist with finding the parking lot. No parking on site but you are able to load/unload and receive a discounted rate for a nearby public lot. The restaurant below the hotel is open from 9-20 and is a nice place to sit and have a coffee or drink. While there is no air conditioning, there was a fan in the room.
I had an amazing time in the hotel, despite staying there just for work. Everyone was so nice and helpful, it truly brightened my days.
The building is old but nevertheless, the hotel is clean and neat.
Also, the location is great: 15 minutes on foot or by public transport to Hbf and less than 30 minutes from the old town.
I will definitely stay there again next time I am visiting Heidelberg.
Gave us an upgrade and it was very nice. Always making sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. When I stay in Heidelberg, this will be my hotel of choice if available. The bathroom and room was clean. Plenty of cleaning supplies and laundry detergent if needed. Has a beautiful fish tank that we enjoyed every day we were there. Outside seating was very nice and accessible.
The location of the hotel in relationship to everything in old town is excellent. The hotel is across the street from the old town Bridge with the monkey and is an easy 5 minute walk to the castle fanicular. There are pleanty of restaurants next-door and close to the hotel. The room was spacious, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious.
What a great location to the old town of Heidelberg, a short walk from the hotel to restaurants, bars and historic attractions such as the Schloss Heidelberg. I didn't have dinner here, but wish I had, their menu looked great. Breakfast was very good, with an a la carte option. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone and also stay here again if I get the chance.
We love getting over jet lag in Heidelberg at the Hotel am Schloss. Daily breakfast is perfect and with a view! Parking is on-site and they offer a discount. It's next to the train for the castle, and within a block of the Christmas Market (3 areas). The bridge is a few blocks away. Plenty of restaurants and small markets for all of your needs.
A great place for a short trip in Heidelberg. A hotel is not direct in the city but therefore you get a room in a good price . The staffs are very friendly. The room was clean and you got what you need for a comfort stay. We have no problem to reach the city on foot. We enjoyed our 30 minutes walk in a warm summer breeze.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We stayed off site and there was a parking space reserved for us. There is a tram stop and a gas station within 20 meters
The staff at the hotel check in were very friendly and efficient
It is about 15 minute ride on the tram to Heidelberg
Great location for 10 minute drive into Heidelberg (which has loads of car parks). Much cheaper than town centre hotels. Rooms and beds were good quality, with good quality breakfast. Parking was free and had a late bar. Would definitely stay again if in the region.
Room was simple but cute. Lovely view of the Heidelberg castle.
Hotel situated right in the old town. Quick accessibility to all places of interests.
All requests have been fully met.
Breakfast was excellent.
Food in the restaurant was very good.
Qube hotel Bahnstadt is a nice small hotel in the suburban area of Heidelberg. The travel to old town will take you 10-15 minutes via car.
The overall hotel is nice and clean. All staffs are helpful and friendly.
Outstanding, no other words could describe our stay at the Hotel Europäischer Hof Heidelberg. From the room bed to the SPA, all hotem amenities, meals. location, attention from the hotel staff were outstanding.
Located right in the centre of 'old town', the hotel is an easy 15 minute walk from the Heidelberg-Altstadt station on the S1 line from Mannheim.
Breakfast was great, with a huge selection to choose from.
The place is away from main Heidelberg on top of the hill. Walking down to Heidelberg town was a nice 20 minutes walk. Very cozy place, and friendly hotel staff. Breakfast was nice.
