Cascais is a small city located on the outskirts of Lisbon. Once a fishing village and defence outpost, the royalty transformed it into a stylish summer resort. Mixing beautiful beaches, elegant mansions, imposing fortifications, and a wide variety of hotels, Cascais is a great option for every season.
King Luís II used the city as his summer residence from 1870 to 1908, attracting other celebrities, and changing the destiny of the tranquil village forever. Modern roads and railway lines linking to Lisbon and Sintra were built, as well as a casino and other facilities. Some of the best hotels and 5-star resorts in Cascais date back to these times.
Nowadays, the town is a cosmopolitan beach retreat along the Estoril Coast, where people from Lisbon and other Portugal cities come for a day or weekend escapade. Many foreign tourists prefer its more relaxed hotels over the sometimes hectic Lisbon atmosphere.
Don’t miss the Citadel, rebuilt during the 16th century in a typical star-shaped Renaissance style. Other attractions include the Museum of the Sea and the ‘Paula Rego House of Stories’.
Beach hotels are the gem of Cascais and you can find a wide range on Booking.com. Check your availability with enough time in advance, as the city remains a popular summer destination.
I love Cascais! There are many things to do here and nearby locations too. Great restaurants, shopping, beautiful parks, nature walks, cafes, museums, outdoor markets and not far from Cascais are the palaces of Sintra and even a Moorish castle. There is a train station in Cascais with trains that go directly into Lisbon in about 25 minutes. Without hesitation i recommend a visit to this beautiful city. I think you will love it too!

The nice restaurants along the coast that serves good seafood. My favorite is Mar do Inferno that I can recommend and the restaurant at Albatroz Hotel.
Cascais also have good connection with train if you like to visit Lisboa or Sintra.

Cascais is a beautiful area.
Cascais is a beautiful area. Easily one of the most prettiest places we have stayed in. A beautiful beach, shops, restaurants and an array of beautiful buildings. Easy to pop on the train to Lisbon which took 40 mins and worth the few euros it cost. We visited in Nov so the weather wasn't hot but we had a lovely warm breeze plus a few showers but you expect that at that time of year.

This in my favourite town in Portugal (though I've yet to visit Porto). This was our 4th visit. Don't stay in Lisbon, stay in Cascais and visit Lisbon by train. There are many inexpensive yet good restaurants. It is a beautiful place.
We travelled out from lisbon to Cascais just to get away from the city for a night as staying a week there. Fabulous hotel, beautiful big room. Massive bed. Free coffee & water and a water point to top up from. Spotless in all areas. Beautiful open & airy reception. Friendly staff. We checked out and headed for the beach and they kindly held our bags in storage until we returned later that evening. Would definately stay again. Great location....about 2 mins walk from train station. We were sorry we didnt stay a 2nd night.
This hotel is kitsch and dated but in a very very charming way. The decor around much of the hotel is straight up from the 70s or earlier and is a bit mad in places but personally, I really liked it, I thought it was cool and kind of time warpy. As for the practical hotel things, the staff were great, the pool is out of this word incredible and the views are stunning. It's about 15 mins by car to Cascais, which translates to about €10 in an Uber which I think is great value,
It is the perfect location in Cascais, next to the water beside one beach, and a few steps to various other beaches. Restaurants galore right across the way. The rooms were big and comfortable (we had waterviews). The best part of the hotel is the amazing staff -- have never been treated more like a VIP! Regina, Goncalo and Paulino were extraordinary! Concierge assist and breakfast service was phenomenal. Just can't say enough about this place and our wonderful stay.
Breakfast and location was great. However, the staff is THE BEST part of the stay. They are all friendly and helpful...they go above and beyond to answer questions and and make sure that you have a great experience at the Hotel and Cascais. It was our second stay at the hotel, and upon arrival we felt welcome and at home as the staff all recognized that we had patronized the property on a previous visit.
Beautiful outdoor oasis, so many gorgeous flowers. Great deep pool for swimming or lounging. Staff were very friendly and helpful - in light of our air conditioning issue. Hotel location is about a 15 minute walk beachfront. The hotel has a 3 legged cat on the premise, we were told she stuck around from the previous owners. She is sweet, came into our room and didn’t want to leave.
This is like a 5 star hotel, but better. Feel yourself like home, staying at relatives place where you are wanted and missed very much. Incredible feeling all thanks to the owner Ana, an absolute number one host in the world. Beds are fantastic, everything shines, very cool location, 15 min walk to center, 8 min to a huge super market pingo doce (walk through the yards).
The Pestana Cascais was an ideal location for us to explore this corner of Portugal. The hotel is on a quiet street, the breakfest buffet offered an expansive selection, the room was always clean and tidy and (most important) the staff (from the front desk, to the restaurant to the cleaning staff) were exceptionally polite and helpful. Bravo to the entire hotel team.
Breakfast was really good! The hotel room was very clean and the staff was always available. We (two teen girls travelling alone) felt very safe and comfortable. The hotel is very close to the train station and it’s easy to reach Lisbon in about 30 minutes by train. The location was great, in the centre of Cascais, everything at walking distance
From start to finish everything was perfect. The knowledge & personal touch offered by all the staff was easily 5*. Breakfast was more than we expected from a small boutique hotel. Location was excellent, only 5 -8 mins from all restaurants & shops. 10 mins to Cascais Train Station which takes you direct into Lisbon, exceptional value!
The location was perfect - we could walk everywhere. The staff were great and the hotel just finished a remodel so all of the rooms had the "new" feel. We got a balcony overlooking the bay and beach which was so lovely. The rooftop deck and pool were great as well.
Renovated in 2020, the hotel is stunning and the location overlooking the water is breathtaking. The staff is amazing (front desk, restaurant, pool, etc.), every detail is taken care of with a smile. Highly recommend The Hotel Albatroz!
We love the position of the hotel, as it is close to our family who live in Cascais. We visit Portugal about 5 times a year
Staff are friendly.
Hotel room clean.
Breakfasts are good.Cannnot comment on other meals.
The hotel is studied in every detail, the co-working and common spaces are really beautiful. The staff is very nice. The room is comfy, very nice and clean. Favorite thing: best breakfast we’ve had in Portugal
Beautiful setting on golf course. Balcony on each bedroom overlooking golf course.
Stunning pool area & view.
Hotel shuttle bus into Cacais every hour till 6pm.
Staff were friendly & very helpful.
Location. Views. Design. Size of the rooms and the hole property, but still very comfortable and calm. Amazing breakfast. Perfect for golf and surf. The golf course is one of the best in Portugal.
The hotel has a nice location because you are in a quiet section outside of the center of Cascais. The staff is very nice and extremely helpful, always answering my questions with a smile.
Kind welcoming hosts.
Best bed I've slept in during my 2 week trip around Portugal. (Usually stay in similarly priced places).
An easy 7-10 minute uber/bolt to the marina/beach.
perfect location with lovely views near to all the bars and restaurants. would class the hotel as 5 star. Spotlessly clean and very helpful staff. Highly recommended.
