FAQs about hotels in Innsbruck

Ski Resort of Royal Splendour

Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, Innsbruck is not only a world-class European ski resort, it’s also the former seat of Maximilian I’s Holy Roman Empire.

This imperial legacy has left its mark, most notably in the Old Town where beautiful Rococo buildings sit alongside pastel facades and typically Tyrolean, flower-adorned windows. The visitable Hofburg imperial court owes its modern appearance to 18th-century Empress Maria Theresia.

The Hofkirche contains a memorial tomb for Maximilian I, and his life is depicted in frescoes on the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) nearby, named after the gleaming, copper tiles lining its entrance.

Flying into Innsbruck Airport, it’s easy to see why the city was so highly regarded. Practically every street ends with a view of the Alps, lush in summer, snowy white in winter. Nestled on a slope is Schloss Ambras, ex-residence of Archduke Ferdinand II, while the surroundings provide summer mountaineering, hiking and golf.

In winter of course it’s all about the fantastic Innsbruck skiing and snowboarding. Ski areas include Nordkette mountain, accessed by cable car and chairlifts near the town’s hotels and B&Bs on Booking.com. Its varied pistes means that several international competitions are held here, as well as the Bergiselschanze ski jump contest. The après-ski is laidback and centred around chalet-style bars and traditional restaurants.

Fantastic city to visit with kids, with particular recommendations for AudioVersum (interactive fun for kids and adults) and Kristallwelten (just the view from the six-storey, glass, indoor play space is amazing). Also, if you're shopping for outdoors/activewear for kids, the selection (especially at the InterSport in Kaufhof Tirol) is greater than anywhere we've been. The centre of the city is quite compact and easy to explore on foot, whilst everything else can be reached within a 10-minute cab ride. Getting out of town is also very convenient by rail, bus, or taxi/uber. We stayed for five days, including two day trips skiing at Schlick, and could easily have stayed longer.

We had a fantastic stay at Das Grune Haus, a gorgeous historic boutique apartment overlooking the river and the Markt Platz. It was easy access to the old town centre and bus lines to the ski resorts as well as nightlife and food. The owner was fantastic to deal with and went out of her way to make our stay perfect. Highly recommend both Das Grune Haus and the location to see Innsbruck.

Old town is very cosmopolitan, high end shops all over old town's old buildings. See the golden Dachl in daylight and at night. Get the "Ein" ticket for the Tirolian folk art gallery which adds the Hofkirche, and other museums for one price, 11euro for 60+. Recommend dining at Stiftskeller, the golden roof Restaurant looked nice and had plenty of customers but didn't eat there. The Swarovski crystal store in the old town is sparkly and pretty but good for twenty minutes.

    Gorgeous little city.

Gorgeous little city. Lots of public transport and mostly friendly. It does take some time to figure out what buses are included in the City Plus Ski Pass and what are not. There are not very many times to get to surrounding ski areas and the buses are absolutely packed. The J bus to Nordkette and Patscherkofel comes often and is quick and convenient. Overall great place to visit for culture, architecture and surrounding outdoor activities and scenery

We loved this boutique hotel with a unique and exciting aesthetic to every space. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and treated with little extras throughout our stay (water, fruit, champagne, chocolates). The elevator was large for European standards making it easy for our disabled pet. Our room was lovely and large with a private, large balcony. Parking can be pre-arranged for a much reduced rate. It is a short 5-10 minute walk to Innsbruck Old Town.

The recently updated interior. Modern and clean with an Austrian traditional feel. The location was across the river 20 mins walk to the old town, however the Innsbruck tourist card which was given on check in meant all the frequent buses free. We enjoyed the walk. Very popular and busy restaurant which offered a wide range of delicious food. Would certainly recommend. Great breakfast offering a wide selection of hot and cold items.

This is an absolute gem of a hotel. I had the best time, between hiking in the mountains surrounding Igls, and further afield thanks to the brilliant welcome to Innsbruck program and great public transport, and reading a book in the afternoon on the balcony with a view to the mountains.
