The best way to explore Erfurt is by foot, and whilst doing so ensure to wander through Stadtpark and Egapark and stroll around the Old Town which is lined by colourful and medieval houses.

This is a most interesting town dating from 1200 at least.
This is a most interesting town dating from 1200 at least. There was a Jewish community from 10000 and I went to the Alte Synagog and would recommend it for information about a possible UNESCO site and a recreation of one of the oldest synagogues in Europe. Also - 14th century treasure! Unbelievably saved from 1349 - jewellery, rings, coins, all in excellent condition,.
I was also privileged to go to a Christmas Service at St Michaels Church (near to the theatre) which is the home of Ukrainians in Germany,

A delightful town to wander around.
A delightful town to wander around. The restaurants tended to close around 9 pm, (in October) but there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. A couple of convenient trams wind their way through the centre from the station. Unusually for Germany, Erfurt was not heavily bombed so there is an interesting mix of architectural styles.
It would be good if Tourist Information could provide route maps identifying points /houses of interest. (We found the Altes Synagogue hard to find)

Erfurt is beautiful.
Erfurt is beautiful. A little taste of history, all the buildings are well preserved. Very easily accessible by foot and public transit, although the frequency of trains slows down early in the evening.
The cafes and restaurants are all wonderful. We ate at the Schnitzeler in Domplatz on the first night, which was excellent and with huge portions. During the day, getting a wurst from one of the street vendors in Domplatz is a must. If you are craving Ramen, check out JEN. The Hirsch Heinrich Sommergarten is the perfect place to spend an afternoon.
For sights, you need to check out Domplatz, Kramerbrucker and Anger Plaza. If it's a hot day, I highly recommend going to the outdoor pool at Nordpark.

Erfurt is a beautiful town full of charm and magic.
Erfurt is a beautiful town full of charm and magic. There are so many things to see most out of doors and without admission charges. The cathedral is very impressive. There’s a bakery on every block that serves great sandwiches-better than most restaurant dinners. There a more cafés than you can imagine all with wonderful specialties especially if you’re into coffee and cake, eiskaffee, or chocolate.

The Augustinerkloster and Old Synagogue tours were both excellent-highly recommend. If you are looking for a good breakfast, try Cafe del Sol. It is a little outside of town, but the bus stops very close to it.

Erfut is really beutifull city with a charm.
Erfut is really beutifull city with a charm. The old city is really nice, you can spend a day just walking trough the old city with observing old houses and cultural monuments.
We were in Erfurt from 24th - 26 th December and unfortunatly would not advise to visit the city at this time because apart from sightseing there is nothing else to do, everything is closed and it was even very hard to find a grocery store.
Luckily there is a lot of nature arround where we could spend our day.
Nicely renovated, all new and very clean. Parking in the garden very comfortable. located in the very centre of the old town and the Krämerbrücke (200m walk). Very quiet location, despite the Altstadtperle is in the centre of the city. B & B "only" is rather an advantages than disadvantage, as there are plenty of restaurants nearby within easy walking distance.
I stayed in a large double bed room ("Bali").
It's right next to the Deutsche Banhof in Erfurt, so you don't even need to pay a taxi to go there, just get out of the station and walk across the street. There are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops in the zone, near the technical university. The hotel is very decent, with nice facilities. Enough for a good rest before taking a train trip to other nearby towns and cities.
The hotel is located in a nice and quiet area. The receptionist/caretaker was very helpful regarding the secure parking of my motorcycle. He offered us a lot of information about Erfurt and went out of his way to accommodate us (move his vehicle out of the way and help us park), despite our return to the hotel at a very late hour after visiting the city center.
After many years visiting Germany, my wife and I decided to visit Erfurt for 2 nights en route between Berlin and friends in Giessen. The city is well worth visiting and has excellent team system. Rote Stein Apartment was an excellent choice. Very well equipped, modern and v clean plus close to tram while v quiet. Would stay again.
The quietest hostel I've ever slept in. Comfy bed, clean and large room, spacious common areas, nice furniture. Staff was brilliant in explaining house rules and giving pieces of advice. Downtown Erfurt is just 10 minutes away on foot. Paid parking available on location on nearby streets/lots.
The hotel was in a quiet neighborhood that was easily accessible to town via tram. The staff at the hotel were excellent, welcoming, and spoke English. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was an additional 14 euro per person. Would definitely stay there again if passing through.
The hotel overall is very nice. Room were well-provisioned and very clean. Nice touch with a rain shower head besides a regular hand-held shower. The hotel restaurant doesn’t have a large menu but the Asian Chicken Noodle soup was fantastic.
The apartment is in the heart of the beautiful, romantic old town of Erfurt, within short walking distance of the Augustiner Church, Kramer Bridge and many wonderful bars and restaurants.
This is a beautiful property next to the Altstadt. The property has been beautifully renovated and appointed. Much attention to detail has been given by the owners.
Loved the location and the hotel. Breakfast was very good. Staff was as good as it gets - friendly and personable, excellent recommendations for restaurants, etc.
It was a clean and very reasonably priced hotel in an industrial estate outside the town of Erfurt. The tram stop was very nearby. It was comfortable and clean.
