Monemvasia needs at least 4 days to be fully appreciated.
Monemvasia needs at least 4 days to be fully appreciated. The hiking trails around the castle and Kalives are often ignored in favor of the castle, which is a crime. The castle is obviously the big attraction here and it's worth it alone. I would suggest staying in Gefira and walking up the castle if you are physically able instead of driving. Skorpios (in Gefira) and Matoula (in the castle) were my favorite places to eat at. By no means should you neglect to try the local wines, especially Malvasia.

It was cool to realize you were staying in something that existed 500 years before you were born, before planes, trains and automobiles... Accomodation was basic, but clean and comfortable. Staying here is about the experience, not the amenities. We really enjoyed our visit. I loved exploring the ruins of the upper town at sunrise. It is a very cool experience.

Unique experience to stay on The Rock!
Unique experience to stay on The Rock! Hike to the upper ruins is a must do, we should have done it upon arrival but waited til the morning of our departure. I would have preferred sleeping in, longer time at wonderful breakfast buffet, and relaxing on our balcony before leaving …. there’s always next time.

Monemvasia was wonderful.
Monemvasia was wonderful. The views were amazing as was the architecture. The Byzantino Hotel was great as were their recommended restaurants. The staff went out of their way to please and to help with directions on driving excursions in the area (Google Maps is out to lunch at times - this was pointed out by staff).

No need to stay on the rock - if you don't mind a walk it's easy to stay on the mainland and walk over to monemvasia for the day or evening. The little town on the mainland has everything you need.
Peaceful place directly on the seaside, without beach, but with a nice swimming pool. Amazing breakfast-moment at pool-bar watching the sea and enjoying the great atmosphere with relaxing music. Parking always available. Optimal location to travel in the peninsula, reach Neapoli and Elafonisos with the new road. 5 minutes by car from a couple very good taverns and 5 minutes to Monemvasia (car is needed, because not nice main road to walk through). I loved the architecture of the hotel.
The main asset of the property are its location and its staff/owners. Any location within the walls of Monemvasia is memorable and unique. When evaluating the hotel, I am taking in consideration the extremely unique specifics of hospitality business in Monemvasia (explained in the section below). We liked the spirit of the place, the kindness of the staff. The breakfast was good and varied, with many typically Balkan meals and products. Our room had a balcony and a huge bathroom.
Monemvasia is one of the most stunning places my wife and I have ever been, a mysterious citadel with a long history and astonishing vistas. To stay in the old town is a true privilege. Our room at Ardamis, a medieval stone structure that has been carefully and lovingly turned into a hotel, was a duplex that featured a second-floor terrace with fantastic sea views and a spacious first floor with a raised bed and delightful décor. We loved our stay at Ardamis!
Very nice hotel in Monemvasia with a wonderful Panorama on the big rock!
Family room is perfect for a family of 4 with two separate spaces, 1 with a very large bed and 1 with two single beds
Very comfortable bathroom with large shower
And breakfast is just perfect with some typical meals. Very appreciated to have the breakfast on the terrace with such a view even end of October!
Very nice people in this hotel, everything was perfect!
We were 100% satisfied as we enjoyed our stay at Lazareto. The main purpose was to visit Monemvasia and the castle but the hotel was top class! Comfortable room with nice decor, easy parking, lovely outside areas with a unique small pool under the rock of Monemvasia. Cuisine was excellent, we had breakfast and light lunch both days. As my 8yo son said they should be a given Michellin star! Everything was lovely.
I liked the location which was in the center of Monemvasia, near the central gate of the castle. The room had no sea view, as mentioned in the reservation, but had a cute little garden with some flowers. The breakfast was delicious, served in the main hotel, about 5 minutes by foot. Our room was quiet and clean, fully renovated with vintage decoration. The staff was helpful and the service nice.
Great location the view is breathtaking! The architecture of the hotel is outstanding but the whole town in the castle keeps the same style . It’s like living in a medieval fairytale .
As for the room was Very nice with old style furniture and most important they were keeping it clean everyday ! There was also a small lovely terrace next to our room so you can sit and admire the Myrtoan sea.
Excellent suite, great living space and lovely bathrooms. This is 4+ star hotel.
All the staff were amazing and very helpful. They even provided free water and barista coffees on our departure. Highly, highly recommended.pool area was amazing. After travelling through Greece staying in AirBNB, this hotel was a luxury break by comparison.
Excellent location within the castle, close to everything (shops, restaurants, the beach, the historic section at the top of the hill). Spacious, clean and well equipped. If it's important to you, do inquire about the rooftop patio, as one is much larger and has a better view than the other.
Hotel was situated within walking distance to city centre. Close to Monemvasia castle. Room was clean and good size with buffet breakfast included. Staff were friendly. Parking available. My daughter enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend to stay at this hotel.
It is a beautiful property and restored historical
building with a museum showcasing olive oil presses. it is situated 20 minutes from Monemvasia castle, offering a quiet escape. the hotel offers a Shia driver to take you to the Monemvasia castle.
It was one of our best stay in a vacation. There is a lot to write about: the location, the breakfast, the view, the terrace, in general - the place. Monemvasia has to be visited and Malvasia Hotel is one of the best place to stay their.
The hotel is perfectly placed in the center of Monemvasia. Directions were provided before our arrival for a smooth journey. Staff were really friendly and provided us with useful information throughout our stay.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The Hotel is in the most perfect location in Monemvasia surrounded by historical attractions! There is also a delicious buffet breakfast in the morning.
Although we knew this room was quite small, this was our favorite place to stay on our 8 day trip to Greece. It had all the charm we imagined at a very reasonable price during the off-season.
I loved that it was in the castle, the breakfast was exceptional, the rooms were uniquely designed so beautiful and the view was breathtaking! I would highly recommend this place!
Perfect little hotel with great views from the room and right at the bridge that takes you to monemvasia. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend
