Hastings has weathered recent years rather better than many...

Hastings has weathered recent years rather better than many towns. The Old Town area which was a little run down on my last visit has now been restored with many restaurants and the narrow streets had a friendly vibe missing from places like The Lanes in Brighton. The town centre is nothing special but only has a few empty shops. St Leonards seems to be its more upmarket twin although the transition between towns is seamless. The coastal area is varied including an under cover "bottle alley" and some good coffee shops (Goat Ledge being my favourite with a hippy vibe). It also felt safe with groups of people of all ages just enjoying being outdoors by the sea with some music. There seem to be plentiful buses to explore further afield and there are two funicular lifts to the top of the cliffs for a more scenic view and to visit the castle. Other towns on the south coast may have a better reputation, but I doubt that you'd get a hotel with sea view at such an affordable price and the locals are universally friendly.

Being a resident of Hastings for most of my life, The town like many others has it's up and downs, The area of St Leonards is peppered with bars and eateries as is the Old town of Hastings. I can't recommend enough an Italian gem La Bella Vista on the seafront of St Leonards.

Hastings always has a lot to offer but going off season means a lot of the places are not open. But there is still plenty to see and do good variety of coffee shops restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. St Leonard’s, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within driving distance. George st has loads of quirky shops to browse in. In peak season the fair ground and amusement arcades are great for the kids. Highly recommended. Maggies is best for fish & chips Two bulls for steak. Or go to Bentleys steakhouse in bexhill for the best steak experience plenty of Italian eateries. And there are 3 great wet fish and seafood outlets at Rockanoor

We loved the vibrancy of independent shops and cafes in the Old Town, the mixture of fishing heritage and culture and seaside. Freshly made pizzas created and served with love at Monellis not to be missed.

Lovely seaside town for a day.

Lovely seaside town for a day. But one more day to do The Battle Abbey which is 17 mins train ride and very easy. A few nice restaurants like the Thai in the book shop, Ladle was fantastic and so was the Porters Sunday roast (the veg roast option was delicious). The contemporary art museum had two very good exhibitions, and the shipwreck museum plus the fisherman’s museum were nice to walk through. The local history house is very nice and worth spending 15-30 mins. The book shop (the hare and hawthorn) is lovely.

Hastings has an eclectic feel with lots of interesting shops, cafes and bars. Good quality for meals, vintage shops selling fascinating items at reasonable prices. Easy to navigate by car or on foot and when you need to escape retail therapy or walk off some of the extra calories, the beach and promenade are relaxed and safe. It's less edgy than Brighton but friendly and especially dog friendly.

Pleasant and service-friendly staff. The owners were pleasant to talk to and were concerned that you enjoyed yourself. Good breakfast with daily fruit included. You had to choose breakfast from a menu which was then prepared in the kitchen. The location of the hotel is excellent in Hastings old town. Close to everything. The pub next door, which has the same owner, served an outstanding sea bass. The pub has a courtyard where you can eat under an old grape plant.

The decor and furnishing in this lovely Victorian house is really interesting with many lovely pictures, books and artefacts from around the world. The breakfast was exceptional a wide range of food of a high standard. We enjoyed eating on the large communal table beautifully laid out and met some really interesting fellow guests from a variety of countries. How a small hotel in a quiet street in Hastings attracted such a cosmopolitan clientele was surprising.

This apartment is right in the heart of the old town with lots close by to do. Everything is an easy walking distance. It’s fun being in the middle of everything. The kitchen is well stocked and we were able to cook several family meals without any issues. The apartment has an old charm to it and it was a wonderful experience for our kids after they got over the initial shock. We enjoyed our time there and I would definitely book again if we ever go to Hastings.

Room was excellent, clean and very comfortable. We had a Juliette balcony which provided great views of the beach/sea. Breakfast was great, the 20% discount was a wonderful extra. Snacks and evening meal were also good quality. Location made it easy to access Hastings or St Leonard’s when taking a stroll. All staff were very helpful and friendly which adds to our experience of staying at this wonderful hotel. We will definitely be returning.

Great location in a warm sunny room with lovely views - love the Old Town and St Leonards... quirky shops, winding alleyways, fishermans huts and smoking houses, art galleries & a wonderful cinema and event place in St Leonards.. Oh and the best pubs around..with an outstanding choice of free live music..way way better than cliquey Brighton. Hastings has a old school charm and history which is really unique. We'll be back...

This isn’t a hotel - it’s a guesthouse. So you’re emailed key details which you unlock from a key safe. But it’s GREAT. Really nice touches - huge towels are something most hotels should pick up on - and very safe and secure. Right by Hastings train station and it will take you less than 5 mins to walk down to the sea. Book with total confidence. It’s like having your own apartment.

This hotel was stylish and comfortable, central but quiet. A beautiful bedroom with comfortable bed and high quality linens. A well appointed bathroom with a brilliant shower. Owners Vincent and Julian were so welcoming and couldn’t have done more to make our stay comfortable. And breakfast was wonderful. We can’t wait to return!

Beautiful hotel . We were shown to our room by the manager, who gave us a free sea veiw upgrade. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to stay an extra night. The staff shuffled things so we could stay in the same room. All the staff are so friendly and the breakfast is absolutely perfect. I will be back again for certain.
