The whole experience was brilliant from start to finish.

The whole experience was brilliant from start to finish. We knew within 20 mins of arriving that we would want to stay again. We loved how nostalgic the hotel was it was like stepping back in time but with a modern facility twist. If there was anything to not like: just the fact that we couldn't eat a light lunch in the Nettleford as previously told we could but we went to the Pilchard Inn instead.

This is the most gorgeous sandy beach, for games, sunbathing, swimming and surfing. Dogs are allowed on half the beach in the summer and the whole in the winter. We had a lovely pre-booked meal at the Pilchard Inn on Burgh Island, a short walk away. I would recommend doing your food shop ahead of time on your way there as there are limited shops nearby. But there are a couple of excellent cafes.

The beach at Bigbury on Sea was lovely, we enjoyed the walk across the sands to Burgh Island. We enjoyed our visits to Salcombe, Hope Cove and Challaborough Bay . Bigbury on Sea is very quiet , access in is via long narrow lanes with some passing places so not that easy to travel around.

The hotel offers, at a cost, an unique experience with interesting surroundings and is made for a relaxing get away. The island is small and hilly but rewards the time when explored and provides a great vista of the coast and surrounding seas, with the different views offered by the changing tides. There is the opportunity to walk along the sandy bay between the island and mainland when the tide is out which could suit walkers and families. This is a hotel offering a tasteful experience of the past with speciality cocktails and a dress up dinner. However I did not find this as a place for gourmet food and felt the price of meals was on the high side.

Lovely beach and excellent hotel on Burgh Island.

Lovely beach and excellent hotel on Burgh Island. Not much else there but great for walks and exploring the coast path. The Pilchard Inn pub is worth a visit too, local beer, excellent rum and lots of gin. Try out the sea tractor if you are brave, lots of fun.

Because I do a lot of driving to and from my job I like to relax and unwind on holiday. The balcony is perfect for that with views on the beach and the sea it is beautiful. A down side apart from the beds the restaurant was very expensive. This is a place if you work hard all year round is and you don't mind being cut off is for you
