Picture-postcard Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t fancy walking, a funicular railway goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful gardens to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!
At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are pavement cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.
A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.
Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its twin city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).
The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodation on Booking.com
Christmas Market and all the wonderful Christmas shops.
Christmas Market and all the wonderful Christmas shops. Castle, funicular railway and the Old Town. The riverside, cafes and lovely restaurants, and just wandering through alleyways and coming upon lovely finds. Super friendly people and feeling really safe.

Heidelberg is a beautiful City.
Heidelberg is a beautiful City. You can't visit and have a bad time if you enjoy culture and exploration!
Choosing the right accommodation for you always helps of course but the City itself is enough to lift anyone's spirits.
Of course the castle on the hill was beautiful as you would expect. I knew it would look amazing up there before we went, and still wasn't prepared for how magnificent it was. The views from the castle were so scenic, I facetimed home to show them, which you were able to do up a mountain because there was 5G connection everywhere.
It is one of those places where if you do it right, you get to know the culture and understand it very quickly and immerse yourself in it.
Would highly recommend visiting at Christmas time.

Heidelberg is a beautiful town.
Heidelberg is a beautiful town. I went at Christmas time and the Christmas market was lovely to see. The streets were all decorated in a festive style. The trams are a very good way of getting around.

A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must.
A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must. You can walk up a rather steep cobbled road, or get the funicular railway. Pay into the castle, or walk the grounds for free. The castle is derelict and uninhabited but the majority of the structure still stands. The view from the garden terrace in the grounds looking down the Rhine and over the old town is fabulous. There are plenty of opportunities to walk alongside the river either side of the old bridge. Lots of places to eat from snack bars and bakeries to restaurants and bars. A 2 day visit was ample for us

Lovely old town and pedestrian walkway.
Lovely old town and pedestrian walkway. Interesting cafes and bars. Architecture was pleasing. Walking along the river was interesting and especially enjoyed the cruise on the Neckar River - although could have benefited by having food or snacks on the boat.

We were in Heidelberg only one night, travelling to France.
We were in Heidelberg only one night, travelling to France.
The big aula in the Heidelberg university is impressive.
Hauptstrasse, pub, ... there were more places to see but we did not have enough time.
The hotel with a delightful restaurant is in a lovely location and it is easy to get into the centre of Heidelberg by tram. The room which my son and I slept in was very basic, quiet and had 2 beds which we wanted. It was also great to have a kettle so we could have a cup of tea in the morning. The check in was easy and fast which we liked. We asked the owner if we could leave our luggage the next day while we looked around Heidelberg and we picked it up later which was very kind of him.
Very modern, clean and new. Elevator. Parking. Fantastic hot water. Nice bathroom. For $62 this was great. Close to public transport. We had a car and parked into town at P12. But use the public transport, it is cheaper. For 2-3 night this is great. It has everything one needs. After all if you are in Heidelberg as a tourist you are in the city all day. The hotel is away from town, keep in mind. But does not matter, you have public transport.
We will be back.
The hotel is superbly located. It is on the upper floors of a building in which the ground floor is the place one can take the funicular towards the Castle. The intermediate levels are a public parking. The address is just a couple of blocks away from the "Marktplatz". My wife and I had a wonderful evening and a marvelous night. In the morning, we enjoyed a plentiful breakfast on a balcony with a spectacular sight of the Heidelberg Castle.
For key collection, my phone didn't work, but my daughter was already in Germany and had a German cell phone that worked. However, I noticed after we got the keys the there is a public telephone right outside this apartment location. Louisa was super quick to get over to the apartment and let us in once we contacted her, and if you have to wait, there's a very nice coffee bar downstairs.
The staff were as warm and welcoming as I've ever seen at any hotel. They anticipated my needs and were happy to answer any questions I had. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent, as was the breakfast. The location was close to anything you'd want to see in Heidelberg. And there was a lovely half bottle of wine in my room compliments of the hotel.
We had a wonderful stay in a comfortable room with a balcony. We had an excellent view of Heidelberg and the river valley below. The hotel also had a beautiful terrace and a delicious breakfast. It was conveniently located next to the funicular for easy access to Heidelberg Castle and the Altstadt.
Fabulous location, immaculate, lovely staff. Great room with a very comfortable bed. The snow and the Christmas decs made it even more magical. If you stay, be sure to take the funicular railway from outside the hotel, down the mountain to Heidelberg old town. It was great fun!
This hotel is located in the heart of Heidelberg's Old Town. Even though it was along a busy street, the rooms were quiet and we slept very well. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. We will definitely come back here again1
Lovely comfortable hotel in centre Altstadt. Super comfortable bed and great shower. Very close to the old town. Evie (I think correct spelling) at front desk was a lovely woman and really helpful- thank you. Also car parking overnight was really good.
Quiete and just 4.5km from de city center of Heidelberg, what is not problem at all because there is easy access to bus stops right in front the hotel. If you have a car is even better staying there. Breakfast good with all people need.
Outstanding, no other words could describe our stay at the Hotel Europäischer Hof Heidelberg. From the room bed to the SPA, all hotem amenities, meals. location, attention from the hotel staff were outstanding.
Located right in the centre of 'old town', the hotel is an easy 15 minute walk from the Heidelberg-Altstadt station on the S1 line from Mannheim.
Breakfast was great, with a huge selection to choose from.
Hotel was perfect for our stay in Heidelberg! Great location.. within walking distance of Old Town and right on the River.. lovely views from our room of the Neckar River the breakfast was amazing!
The hotel is ideally situated in the heart of Heidelberg but away from the noisier streets. The rooms have excellent views and come equipped with mini-fridge, desk, and wardrobe.
The hotel was close to the central station of Heidelberg. The hotel had a nice lounge with games and a corner for kids. It also had. A nice atmosphere.
