The Ferry Boat is in a great location in the small town of Portmagee. The bed was very comfortable and there were tea and coffee facilities in the bedroom. The shower pressure was amazing, and there was shampoo and bodywash in the shower for guest use. There was also a basin in the bedroom which was handy. It was easy to access the property through a lockbox and the communication from the hosts was easy to follow.
Featuring a garden and views of sea, Seagull Cottage B&B is a recently renovated bed and breakfast located in Portmagee, 2 km from Skellig Experience Centre.

Above picture is of another property on site. We (myself and friend) booked a 2 bedroomed house. A bigger more luxurious option. Ciaran (a talented builder, gent and regaler extraordinaire, could NOT have made us feel more welcome. His wife Caroline was away for our arrival but joined us for a equally warm welcome on the following evening. Comfort of a very high standard, beautiful walk on our doorstep, the gorgeous Portmagee within a 5 minute drive. The spectacular scenery and people of this gem in
Portmagee (Irish: An Caladh, meaning "the ferry")[2] is a village in County Kerry, Ireland. The village is located on the Iveragh peninsula south of Valentia Island, and is known locally as 'the ferry', in reference to its purpose as a crossing point to the island. Access to Valentia Island is now via the Maurice O'Neill Memorial Bridge (R565 road) from Portmagee, which was built in 1970 and named in memory of a member of the IRA executed in 1942 for his part in the shooting dead of Detective George Mordaunt in Dublin.[3][4]
A small fishing village with beautiful scenery nearby.
A small fishing village with beautiful scenery nearby. Parking could be an issue in hi-season, There are scenic boat trips around the islands and can be booked at the hotel. Off-season is quieter but no live music.

Easy access to tourist options.
Easy access to tourist options. Cliffs of Kerry are on private property on the outskirts of Portmagee and entry cost was 5 Euros per person - good views and a bit of a climb from the car park.
The Skellings chocolate shop was great. You can try many samples of different types of chocolate before buying.
Many people travel to Portmagee for the 45 minute boat trip (one way) and landing on Skellig Michael. Landing is weather dependant - and not guaranteed. Puffins are adorable and plentiful. Guide at top of the steep 600+ steps climb up to the beehive huts was informative. Toilet facilities only at the arrival point to the island.
Brayhead Tower is over the bridge on Valentia Island with fabulous views out to sea towards the Skelligs and cliffs of Kerry. Car park is paid by a 2 Euro coin only. It is a LONG walk to the tower.
Tetrapod trackway is free, difficult to see the tracks but fabulous views. The slate works are close to the Tetrapod trackway but visitor information is limited.
We ate both nights outside at "The Fishermans Bar & restaurant" in Portmagee. Service is good and friendly. They serve fresh fish caught that day and it was delicious.
The smalll supermarket is not well stocked with pre-filled rolls/sandwiches and appears to have limited supplies - suggest you shop at Cahersiveen or Sneem if you are self catering.

Had a fabulous trip to Portmagee.
Had a fabulous trip to Portmagee. The accommodation was brilliant, everyone was comfortable and the Liz the owner was very helpful.
The Royal Hotel on Valentia has beautiful food.
The Fisherman in Portmagee do the some of the best seafood I've ever had.
Kids loved the beaches.
Went kayaking off Valentia also in Kingstown, very enjoyable and affordable.
We had a great time in Portmagee and the surrounding area.
The apartment is in the perfect location to be walking distance (2 minutes) to the pub/restaurants in town while also being close to all of the sights and walks around.
We also travelled to nearby towns over on Valentia Island and also over the other side of the Kerry Cliffs.
There is a nice view from the kitchen window down onto the bay.
And you’re very near the Skelligs!
The location is perfect for the Ring of Kerry tour. Gerard is friendly and all the essential facilities were supplied. He showed his friendly support, introduced the tourisms, and helped us to book table in the restaurant. House is located in a convenient area which made the shop, pubs, restaurants are in working distance. Also, you can easily reach Valentia Island. We had a comfortable rest and enjoyed the rest of our tour after.
Met by Ger, extremely friendly and honest; able to give plenty of information on local amenities.
House although very old has all the features needed (electric shower, oil fired heating, WiFi, Netflix etc etc). House is 1 min walk to local pubs and restaurants, across the road from the village post office and shop and only a 5 min walk from Portmagee Whiskey
Location is perfect for exploring this region of kerry
The room was clean and quaint and had everything we could possibly need. We cooked in the studio apartment and it had all utensils and appliances needed. The location is quiet and remote but the town of Portmagee is only a short drive in. It is worth the trip alone for the jacuzzi and sauna that Paula provides on site with the beautiful views of Valentia Island. A beautiful home.
A wonderful location in the centre of Portmagee. We had a nice, clean, and spacious room. I am sorry that we only got to spend one night. They offer an opportunity to have an early breakfast in case visiting the Skellig Michael. I cannot comment on their regular breakfast. Parking is possible in the street or in a car park nearby.
The owners of this Inn were probably the nicest people we met in Ireland so far. Both of my parents are from Ireland so it was so nice to listen to Kieran tell me stories about his father and the property and Caroline provide us with so many suggestions to make our trip to Ireland all the more memorable.
As a wheelchair user this bnb could not have been more disability friendly - a disabled parking spot, an accessible bathroom and a strong welcome from the thoughtful bnb owners. Location is great, so close to the town of Portmagee, and the Kerry cliffs. The bnb itself is beautiful and extremely clean.
The house is well above the standards in Ireland, bedrooms are big and comfortable. The bathroom is great, too. The location is great to explore the area, the farm is very well maintained and the animals are a good activity for the kids. Owners are very kind, welcoming and supportive.
Though Portmagee is pretty small, this house is right in the middle of town. Spacious, full amenities, comfortable bed and good shower. This is a 3 bedroom, 4 bed house and I only used one of the rooms, but the full kitchen and dining would make this ideal for an extended stay.
Beautiful views from here. Breakfast items provided in fridge I room
Please.tif tea and coffee supplied. Very welcoming. 10 mins walk to Portmagee facilities which has good eating places. Excellent location to pause round ring of Kerry and to visit Valentia island.
I particularly enjoyed our host Marie who is exceptionally helpful, warm, and welcoming. She even special-delivered baked treats on Portmagee's 'muffin day'.
The location is also wonderful and is in immediate proximity to the must-see sight of Kerry Cliffs.
Amazing view of valentia island from our room! Room was also very comfortable, tea/coffee and biscuits provided were great and the host is super friendly! Portmagee is a nice little town as well, so I would definitely recommend staying here.
Lovely stay!
We loved the charming village of Portmagee.
This lodging is across from the departure Harbour for Skellig Michael.
Our room was clean & comfortable.
Our hosts, Judy & Mike, were friendly & helpful.
Our room was spectacular. Three windows looked out on the harbor and the island just beyond it. The decor was the nicest of the hotels we’ve stayed in on this trip. It was spacious and comfortable.
wonderful location right beside the Kerry cliffs and the village of portmagee. beds were super comfortable. all the facilities you need for a short stay. host was lovely and welcoming.
