The breakfast was simple, without a lot of choices, but freshly prepared and very tasty. The bed was very comfortable and the room, though small, was well thought-out and comfortable as well. The outdoor terraces were particularly nice. The location was perfect, quiet but close to the city center and the waterfront beaches.

The town itself isn't particularly interesting, although it does have some nice options for seafood and urban beach type activities. The main point of it seems to be as a base of operations for either day trips to places of interest in the surrounding area or longer trips into the desert peninsula of La Guajira. Both of which seem easy to arrange.

Riohacha feels more like a stop gap for those headed up to Cabo de la Vela. Its a small town with lots of conveniences, like an airport, a lot of hotels, bus terminal, lots of convenience stores, groceries, pharmacies and banks. The beach is OK, not amazing. it might be possible to swim sometimes but the water doesn't look clear and clean. The people are generally friendly but you must be able to speak some Spanish -as much as the rest of Latin America.. It's a good place to get your bearings and rest or catch up on a little work if you find a place with good wifi. Its nice for cocktails and a romantic stroll down the pier.

I took my daughter to Alta Guajira!
I took my daughter to Alta Guajira! I choose Ecoutour agency. We had a cultural exchange with the Wayuu community. Our drivers (yuglio and Gustavo) were super helpful and made us feel safe at all times. Water is scarce but the rancherías make anything possible to have everything available for the tourists. The crossing to the Alta Guajira is beautiful. We had a great experience and my daughter had an amazing learning experience. It is sad to see so many children begging during the crossing. Our drivers were helpful to teach us how to distribute food so there was enough for everyone.

Riohacha is a rustic, different and interesting city.
Riohacha is a rustic, different and interesting city. The traffic is not crazy like many south american cities. People are friendly and the Wayuu (natives of the region are a very quite gentle people) with very beautiful clothing and crafts to sell at very fair prices) If you are looking for a quite relaxing holiday this is the place. If you are seeking a party location pick somewhere else. If you are interested in nature and a very different Colombian culture you will enjoy Riohacha. It has a very large market where you can purchase just about anything. We spend most of one day there shopping. We expected to see allot of Venezuelan refugees however there were very few. We learned the UN has a processing centre set up near the border where they process Venezuelans fleeing their country. Riohacha holiday location infrastructure appears to be developing and will undoubtably be a major tourist hub within 10 years. If you want to experience a location that is not yet over run with large tourist crowds and the prices that go with it, now is the time to visit Riohacha and area.
The location by the Malacon (waterfront) is excellent. Its very clean and the friendly staff are great. Very nice hotel and safe. We were with another couple and booked 2 rooms. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and all the major tour companies know them. They will have a breakfast ready to take with u, for early tours. Air conditioning worked great..All kinds of restaurants very close by. This seems to be a newer hotel or its been recenty redone. Nice find! And great price!
This boutique hotel in Riohacha is a hidden gem! Far exceeded our expectations. The staff were lovely and went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable, organizing a driver and a place for lunch at Mayapo. The air con in the room was welcomed after being outside in the heat. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. All in a all a very memorable stay which I wouldn’t hesitate to repeat should I return to Riohahca! Thank you to all the staff of Luna Nueva!
Best location in Riohacha, best hotel in Riohacha. Some previous reviews mentioned the noise outside of the air conditioning units but I had no issues with either. It was a peaceful nights sleep and can’t beat the location. The breakfast was fresh and available until 10, excellent hospitality, fantastic view from the top floor terrace where the restaurant is. Seemed expensive for Riohacha but it was nice
Good location, small rooms, but alright. We didn’t appreciate the owner screaming very (!) loudly at 6.30 am outside the hotel, followed by a comment about how people don’t like how loud he talks. The street-side room has single glass windows and is extremely noisy. All the staff was absolutely great and very helpful
The location is good, the hostel is clean, the wifi worked well for us, the shower was pretty good and there was air conditioning in all the rooms, which is great in the Riohacha heat. The breakfast offered was also good, and we were able to do our laundry at the property.
I was ill during my time in Riohacha and the family did everything to make me feel comfortable.
They are all so caring and will really go out of their way to help you.
The rooms are clean, the aircon is good and there’s a great outdoor space to sit and relax.
Family run hotel, and you really feel part of the family. Very kind people.
The location is close to the main road, but it is quiet.
To get to the flamingo lagoon, a short motorbike passage is needed, but the owners are very helpful, and they can arrange it.
I really liked everything. It's a downtown hotel so one would expect some noise. The area around the hotel is very quiet at night however. I was happy to be on the second floor as there is no elevator. Good value, nice staff.
