I chose the hotel based purely on location (closest one to where the friends I was visiting live) and was absolutely fine for what I needed. I ended up working on my laptop at the little desk in my room a lot more than expected and the WiFi didn't drop once. Staff were friendly, room & hotel clean, a little noisy but it's on the main road with a restaurant underneath (which opens much later than it says online) but the windows keep the worst of the road and bin lorry noises out.

As expected, the hotel was rather isolated but as it was located on a cliff top, surrounded on three sides by the sea, with beautiful walks on the doorstep, we couldn't fault it for location. Warm welcome by staff who spoke good English. View from the very comfortable and well appointed room was exceptional.

Between lush hills and undulating coastline, Gijón is the largest Asturias city. Its oldest part covers a peninsula with the modern Elogio del Horizonte sculpture at its green tip. Cobbled streets house brightly painted restaurants and bars serving the acclaimed local cider, and arches lead to stylish Plaza Mayor. Underground are the Campo Valdés Roman bath ruins, and Campa de Torres has an archaeology park.
Flanking the peninsula is Poniente beach, curving between the marina and aquarium, and overlooked by the Talasoponiente spa. Small Playa del Arbeyal is by the port, and the promenade of popular San Lorenzo beach continues to waterfront San Pedro church.
Gijón activities include diving and dolphin watching, and there are 2 golf courses in green surroundings. The Atlantic Botanical Gardens were the first in northern Spain, and sit opposite the impressive buildings of Laboral University’s Viesques campus. Landscaped Isabel La Católica Park is close to is the El Bibio bullring and across the river are the Gijón Exhibition Centre and Asturias Museum.
Another museum was home to the city’s most famous son – Melchor de Jovellanos. Also named after him is an elegant theatre overlooking Paseo de Begoña park.
Booking.com’s Gijón accommodation includes luxury beachfront hotels, guest houses near the train station, and historic country houses.
Gijon is a beautiful beach city. It’s not small, but not huge. The two playas are connected by a sweet park. There is an old town area with great restaurants typical of the area. We went to La Ganare and it was fantastic!

Alba at the front desk was professional beautiful and beyond helpful- grew up in Gijon and sent us to all the best places- we loved everything she recommended compared to tonight accommodation which was twice the price and we are sorely disappointed… nothing compared to our stay last night! We will definitely be back to Gijon and this hotel absolutely fantastic

Gijón is very charming with lots of different neighborhoods to explore and very easy to get around on foot. There are many shops and cafes and a good variety of restaurants at different price ranges. The beach is beautiful and wide and the old quarter is wonderful. A real vacation place when you want to relax although it a lot of cultural/historic sites if that is what you’re looking for. Climate is great if you’re trying to escape the heat!

Wonderful town/city.
Wonderful town/city. Loads of interesting shops, restaurants and cafes, historical building’s the,old quarter, was fascinating. The town had the vibrancy of say, Brighton, quirky cafes as well as high class restaurants. Great 4 course set menus, including wine, too much food, but not complaining! Great bakeries and cake shops. Friendly people, good parks, lots I didn’t get time to see. Easy supermarkets plus Lidl.

It is so nice city, just a bit advice, try to enjoy other areas rather just the center. And if you prefer the night life, you will definitely need to stay in Oviedo and visit Gijón during the day time. The beaches there r so nice and ppl too, and it is cheaper than Ovieado. Whenever you go away from the centeral station google map gives the wrong bus stops.
Try to visit other cities nearby, but first discover oviedo it has a lot to do at.
Hotel was centrally located, with nearby restaurants, shops, etc. It was well insulated, no issues with traffic or neighborhood noise. Very well appointed and spacious. Heating rack for towels. AC with controls, and ceiling fan too! Beds were comfortable. Our room was located away from any other adjacent rooms, which was really wonderful as there was no noise disturbance from adjacent rooms. Cleaning teams did a wonderful job in between our two nights. We treated ourselves to a rest day from the Camino in this hotel.
When I arrived I remembered I had stayed here before and the lady that met me remembered me so we had a nice talk. She explained some of the culture of northern Spain to me. I decided to stay an extra night before moving on to my destination. It's in a great location within minutes of the beach. I definitely recommend staying here and it's perfect if you fly into Asturias airport. Ryanair fly here from Dublin now so it's a lovely city but also a great place to start your trip to northern Spain. Also great wi-fi

Location is fine, we were able to walk easily to the main area of Gijon. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The cafe next door was good for a quick coffee and simple breakfast. Free parking is hard to find, we moved our car a few times during our stay to be closer, if you're lucky enough to find a spot in the carpark opposite, it's not too far to walk from the hotel.
The hotel was perfect. Everything is kept in perfect condition. Isabel and the staff were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We were treated with top-notch service. The location was great, close enough to town, but away from the crowds. We loved the views from every window. Everything was perfect! If we could rate it a 12, we would. Loved it!
The property was really lovely, the flat was a nice space and the views are great from the window. The pool isn’t heated but when you have nice weather it’s not a problem! Alejandro was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. It is about a 25 minute walk to Gijon city centre but there’s free parking so a really good base for exploring Asturias.
El Moderne Hotel is very conveniently located by the old town of Gijon. There are excellent restaurants nearby. We had a small problem with our room which Marco on reception resolved with the least fuss and the greatest speed. We were most impressed with his help and the friendliness of all the staff. We recommend this hotel very highly.
It was a beautiful hotel in the middle of Gijon. They are 24 hour and were ready to receive us even though we arrived late on a bus from Bilbao. Breakfast was great and plentiful, also amazingly served from 7-11. I recommend this hotel for a visit to Gijon.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I liked almost everything and I can recommend this hotel to everyone, especially to couples. The most important advantage of this hotel is own parking that we used for our car.
Proximity to shops and beach front, cafe next door with lots of resturants close by. Parking available, at a price underground at the hotel, as it was high sesason and parking was almost impossible to find.
Beautiful building, amazing fit out, very stylish without being stuffy, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere- best overall hotel experience during my 5 week trip to Europe
Big room, lot of light.
Lovely smell in the hotel lobby. All very clean and peaceful.
Great advice for a one day plan out of Gijón from one member of the night shift
